  1. Baking soda is sodium bicarbonate so how does that alter the hardness?
  2. I don't know how to advise you as you need to support the tank but allow air movement to avoid overheating a portion of the base and breaking the glass. That is why I don't use heat pads. Someone with experience in using them may be able to help.
  3. the water will not get much softer than that.
  4. Someone told me you can sex them by the colour of the throat but I can't remember which way it is. One is yellow and the other white.
  5. There is a test of speed which you may come across and that is to see how fast you can move to rescue the frog that only has its back feet sticking out of a sibling's mouth.
  6. Is this post about David Cooper's new book (which is likely to be very high quality and useful) or just about coelacanth. If it is the latter it is very boring and may be better posted on some other more suitable site.
  7. Heat and foam or plastic don't mix well. If you trap the heat by not having ventilation underneath or by puting the pad under a hide and you have a glass base it could crack. What is the construction of your terrarium?
  8. Going by the throat it could be a base baratone.
  9. What is the hardness and what hardness do you want?
  10. I think they are intended to be stuck to the underside on the outside and could therefore be pulled off and relocated (even if with great difficulty). If you have an exoterra type terrarium where there is a gap between the base and the support area it would be OK but it would be a problem on an aquarium type terrarium because the base would nor be supported properly and the heat would be trapped and may cause the base to brake because of differential expansion. That is one of the reasons why I don't use heat pads.
  11. I was told they went to froggy heaven
  12. Please don't feed the animals as it can make them grumpy. The book should be very informative and written by someone with a wealth of knowledge and experience.
  13. If you can't afford the time don't do the crime. Lock them up for a while.
  14. I am pretty easy either way---I will worry about it when I feel the need to get a mobile phone.
  15. The previous lot ended up at Orana Park. One of the problems is that they were labeled as coming from a certain location but there could well be a half dozen different colonies in that area and each having slightly different genetics. It is not known which colony they came from so they cannot be returned and will end up in zoos or destroyed.
  16. It must be similar to when it rains cats and dogs.
  17. I think Mr T is still trying as well.
  18. Hope it is not the last one left.
  19. Last winter I grew a selection of emersed plants under artificial light. There were 3 lumiflor and one blue tube and I don't think they behaved any differently to before I replaced one with blue.
  20. To be honest I don't know. I have been shown a book with graphs of the wavelengths that do certain things but I have lost contact with the person with that info. There are specific wavelengths of light that encourage certain things with plant growth not just blue or red. If I remember correctly there were two or three wavelenghts of blue for instance so it is not just red and blue you want.
  21. Obviously haven't worked out who realy needs the money.
