  1. When I was raising albino green and gold tadpoles I lost a couple and was advised to use rain water and raise the temperature to 25-26 deg and never lost any more after that. They all morped OK.
  2. Will talk to you Wednesday--no pressure, just an offer. Barrie, I always stored guentheri 4 months (just a time waster)
  3. Columnarus can be cured with Furan 2 available from your pet shop. It is often called mouth fungus but is a bacteria and needs to be treated with a bacteriacide.
  4. I have young (just sexable) Nothobranchius guentheri gold--about 10 I think. Free if you want to breed them. I could bring them to the meeting on Wednesday if you want. Peat spawners that you store the eggs for 4 months then wet and instant fish. Best in their own tank as they need a teaspoon of salt to the gallon to keep the velvet away. 23-24 deg is good.
  5. I think the aromatica came from the asian markets in Auckland. They cook it in some dishes. I haven't seen it down here. There may be a plant auction at the conference---there often is. If not there, you may get some on your trips around the shops.
  6. The pH is less important than the timing with the breeding and the conditioning.
  7. The first plant is Hygrophila salicifolia (willow leaf) grown emersed and the second is Hygrophila stricta (cherry leaf, temple plant) grown emersed. Salicifolia (usually sold as angustifolia) is more commonly available down here because the stricta tends to grow rank and flower more readily when grown emersed. I think the stricta looks better submersed.
  8. Another problem is that the general population and the odd overseas import have such little respect for our flaura and fauna that Doc have to remain secretive about the location of these rare species. Some person with an accounting bent might think that exporting them would be the solution to our financial woes. Because of this situation it is difficult to find out what rear or endangered species are likely to be located where mining is being proposed. As soon as it is declared that this is a site for something rare every man and his dog would be up there trying to find them.
  9. Or spawn them over a net so they can't eat them.
  10. You get what you can for them. The market is the market.
  11. I understand that the health of frog populations is a good measure of the health of the aquatic environment. Doesn't say much for the way we are looking after our clean green country.

    Did you know?

That's OK for the gills but what about the boys?
  13. I bought mine as tadpoles for a lot less than that. A dozen tads for that price.
  14. This is the third or forth time it has been up. Reserve has come down from $600 to $400 I think but they are still in lala land. Albinos look better and are a lot cheaper than that.
  15. There is a discussion over what it is. Green pine is Mayaca fluviatalis and some claim red pine is another variety of Mayaca and others that it is Rotala wallichii. I have bought Rotala wallichii on a number of occasions, converted it to emersed growth and flowered it and it has the same leaf and flower as Rotala rotundifolia. I am waiting for someone to flower red pine and see what they get. R. wallichii has a white flower. You pays your money and takes your pick.
  16. It helps to be mad but not that mad.
  17. I have beardies a bit younger than yours and I put them into an icecream container every morning and spray them with water until there is an excess and they are getting a bath as well. They stay in there while I make their salad and give them clean water. Then they get a swag of calcium coated neonate locusts so they are available 24/7. I also spray a little liquid vitamins on their salad every day. Most beardies do not recognise standing water and few will drink out of a dish (some will bath in it though)
  18. There is a little more to mining than hiding the entrance to the mine. What happens to all the spoil that comes out of the hidden entrance? If we extract all our minerals now, what will our decendents do to survive in 100 years when they face financial problems? They could offer to take all the radio active waste from all the countries that don't know what to do with it and charge them heaps to dispose of it in our existing mines ---that would reduce our debt. This country needs to learn to think ahead more than a fortnight.
  19. They are tree frogs that spend most of their time out of the water and don't like it too cold. If you get rid of the chlorine it will be OK.
  20. You are right. It obviously helps. I thought you might have bought the leucistic by now---waiting for the reserve to come down to something more sensible?
  21. Most reptiles are more fertile when they come out of brumation.
  22. Me. Green and golds don't survive outside down here in the real world.
  23. Rummy nose are good but you can never have too many neons for sale.
