  1. Perishable goods. You can only do your best so get used to it.
  2. Fine gravel that is the course component of sand and came from organism and I think is no longer available. I do a similar thing by seiving the sand. Aquabasis, then the fine unwashed component, then the courser washed component.
  3. I think you may find that daltons was the sub-substraight (the gravel on top of it to hold it down).
  4. We timed it pretty well I think--we have hail here this morning that those going overseas hopefully missed out on. Hope you all had a good time, I certainly did.
  5. Not over yet. We have to have a tank crawl around town for those that are still available before heading back to that other place over the sea. Should be good too--go on, get jealous why don't ya.
  6. The other point that people forget sometimes is that the light reaching the bottom of a tank 600mm deep is only a fraction of the light reaching the bottom of a 300mm tank---not half. Therefore if you double the depth you need to more than double the light output. This leads to a couple of problems--you can end up with light at the top causing problems with being too intense in order to get the required light at the bottom, and different light frequencies penetrate water differently so some types of light may be completely filtered out at the bottom. This is known by the salties because red light is quickly filtered out in seawater so they use blue lights.
  7. I buy mine from Mulford Plastics in Christchurch.
  8. At the moment I can't remember the name of the place but there is a place in Sydenham that I have bought rigid plastic tubing from in the past. Try the yellow pages.

    tank

It would depend a lot on how high the tank is. Also it is my opinion that tanks of that shape are weaker than a standard shaped tank as the end joints are not as direct as a rectangular one.
  10. The first day was great and today should be just as good.
  11. Welcome and enjoy your stay
  12. At the moment the straight varieties--V. gigantea, americana and spiralis are prohibited organisms and the others are not. I am told by people at the Regional Council that they would like to ban all Valliseria sp. as well as Sagittaria subulata as they can all be invasive, but at the moment they are legal.
  13. There are a number of importers but generally they are only interested in importing fish of their own choice.
  14. Its pretty cheap if you are rich as. $20K but the advantage is that you can also get free board and lodging for 5 years as well.
  15. Your vallisneria will grow well if you don't let the Regional Council know that you have it. All the straight varieties are prohibited organisms and I understand they would also like to ban all varieties as well as Sagittaria subulata.
  16. Rotala macrandra requires pretty strong light.

    Hi all.

    Welcome and enjoy.
  18. I think the wood pidgeons actually get drunk from gorging on fermenting fruit. Premarinated wood chicken.

  20. I have have drunk a heap of water from mountain streems without catching any baddies as well, but that was before I had met people suffering from Giardiasis and the like.
