  1. It does make sense to have 2pumps going but I dont think you need 2 sumps On my 10ft display tanks I run 3ft sumps Both of which have 2 pumps in them so even if 1 pump dies the filter will continue long enough to allow me to replace the dodgy pump Brad
  2. Afrikan depending on the size of your sump it wont make that much difference to the weight All my sumps run with a minimum of water generally in the smaller sumps (3ft) they would approx 50litres Over all your 2 aquis wont be much lighter then that Brad
  3. I would definaly go with a sump Over all its alot easier to work on The Aquis filters are great but I wouldnt reccomended them for a 800litre tank though I know they say that but all filter company's will over compensate alittle Get yourself a decent 3ft sump and set it up properly and you will never look back at a canister for a big tank Brad
  4. If your using Nuetral reg by Seachem you dont need to add any other conditoner If its a white cloudyness then its a bacterial bloom most likely from a big clean to your filters How do you clean the filters out? I wouldnt get your water tested as well and if you dont have any ammonia or Nitrate then slow your water changes down as the bacterial bloom will clear itself It just takes time Brad
  5. I still believe the parents will be a problem with them I know alot of people that have had success raising the fry when the parents have been removed and virtually none survive when the parents were in the tank Nothing else is changed in both situations Brad
  6. They are very finicky eaters when they are small Need high quality food with great water quality The parents will eat the fry if given the chance really need to move the parents Good luck raising them I know of a few people that really struggle Brad
  7. Or if you want to use a high quality product Get Nuetral regulator this product will buffer your water to 7 Very easy product to use and keeps fish tanks perfect Brad
  8. There are many many cases where fish have been moved into another habitat and things go bad Talapia are a major problem here in Australia Red Devils survive in a creek near Coffs Harbour where the temp drops fairly low below 20 and they still survive there Fish can tolerate a wide range of conditions and its this that worries quarantine stations As Frenchy said Cichla are now wild around Florida I might not agree with some of the decisions but overall it is a good thing Brad
  9. If Labidochromis Carealues are an allowed import then it is possible to get them though the importrer would need good contacts to be able to get them as the whole species is fairly rare in the lake Not something commonly seen anywhere as far as I know Brad
  10. So guys looks like its allowed to be imported into NZ I have pmed some pricing to Jewelz and I think they are trying to get alittle bit of an order together Saves on the Freight if a few people get together Brad
  11. LOL wishful thinking never hurts I will get some pricing together for you guys and trying to work out the best way Freight wise Brad
  12. Yes there are several ways to start the colony of bacteria As noted above So running them in an established filter is out of the question if they want to keep them totally seperate Even in the cleanest of aquariums there is still a risk of introducing something else Even its just snails it can still happen Brad
  13. Still you wont have the bacteria up enough unless you dose in extremely hgh doses of ammonia and then it would take just as long to cycle naturally The fishless cycle works on a base rate of 5ppm of ammonia If your trying to get the same amount of bacteria in 24 sponges then you would need 120ppm of ammonia This would take forever to cycle out and you cant use that tank for along time If you added them to their respective tanks and cycle them with fish at least all your tanks are going and you know exactly how much load each one will take Yes the cycle will be slow but more stable Brad
  14. I would try leaving it for at least a week or 2 without doin any maintenance and see what happens Just keep on checking your levels especially Ammonia and Nitrate I would think its just a bacterial bloom and the tank isnt getting enough time to get rid of itself Brad
  15. I myself wouldnt use Ammonia as I prefer to cycle naturally As above they dont want to use anything from a mature tank as theyare worried about cross infection If you wanted to fushless cycle them then use ammonia in the new clean tanks and monitor it till there is no ammonia and nitrite Then a big water change nearly 80% should be fine and then your right to go Or just set them up and slowly add fish and let them cycle naturally There is no use trying to do them all in one tank as they will be spreading the bio load over each other and therefore not getting much each Brad
  16. OK What are exactly doin in maintenance at the moment to try and get it clear How often are you changing water and how much? Are you cleaning your filter at the same time I know these are basic questions but sometimes it is exactly that something basic Brad
  17. Yeah sounds like it might be a good idea to get him out then Brad
  18. It is a Distichodus sexfasciatus http://www.practicalfishkeeping.co.uk/p ... cle_id=253 I have found them to fairly placid though I had one about 12 " and he was fine for me but was very aggressive to my mates Aro's and lungfish Brad
  19. Well the only way then is to cycle them in the new tanks with fish in them I have used Stability and had better results then I have had with cycle Actually taking water acros to the new tanks wont really do anything worth while as the majority of the bacteria is on the media and gravel not actually in the water Brad
  20. Running them in an established tank is the best way to go Though remember where you have added them the BIO load in all the media will mix between these So if you add all 24 into one tank theywill all get a fraction of the bacteria needed to run that tank Brad
  21. Where did the GM Danio post go? Why was it removed? Brad
  22. The vast majority of the food sinks straight away with some of it floatin for alittle bit Not long though The large fish range is perfect for your front I know alot of breeders here are using it with great success Brad
  23. Its Pogestamin Stellata I cant remeber the spelling exactly Brad
  24. I would definalty post some over but I dont know who it will go through Customs as its a food product If someone wants to find out if its allowed then I will send some over no worries Brad
  25. I love the stuff I sell the whole range here in my shop and I have found nothing but great results The fish in the shopall get fed with it Im not sure if its avail. in NZ though Brad
