petplanet prices are usually pretty good. that skimmer should do the trick for a 100l tank.

cool. i have a 400w MH and 150w mh, i will use one at one end and one at other, its all i have atm. i'll get a 3x250w at some stage, $$$ system will also have 2x48 inch actinic, and 4x24inch white tubes

i am upgrading from a 260l setup to 750l. i intend to use NSW as i currently do in the smaller tank, , and dont want to use any of the water in my current setup. this is essentialy a 100% water change - does anyone see a problem with transferring livestock into the new tank. obviously temp and ph will be same / close as poss. i will also be going to a 400w halide and a 150w (all i have at the mo) from just a single 150. i know this may be a shock to some of the corals, not sure how much this will be a factor in their acclimatization, or where to place them initially.

most isps do static ip for free. your adsl router will act as a soft firewall, it only lets through ports you specify. that combined with a properly patched winXP service pack 2 machine with your sygate firewall enabled, you shouldnt have any security issues. i know dozens of guys running webservers from home on ADSL connections with only routers acting as soft firewalls, and none have ever had their machines r00ted / credit card info stolen / children abducted / jandals nicked etc. as a home user your main security woes will come from viruses / spyware from inadvertanly opened emails & popups, which will open their own ports and execute any malicious code from inside your home network. wasp's fishtank webcam is not a hacker target..... no one is likely to spend any time trying to access an old winXP box on a 256/128 connection in new zealand [except for lduncan :] as far as terms and conditions, most isps either dont forbid or will turn a blind eye to home users running web servers at home so long as you dont break the law with content - copyright, kiddypron, etc.

yeah you need a static IP address from your ISP. shouldnt be a problem if you have ADSL. if they wont give you a static IP, threaten to switch to another provider - they will come around, most ISPs will give you a static address now days. then you run the software on your computer and choose to "create web page" then"run web server on my computer" allowing access to it from other computers. you need to configure your ADSL router to allow traffic [TCP on port 8080, which is the default port for the software] to the local IP address of your home PC. this will be in the configuration options on your router, called "port fowarding" or "virtual server" or similar. then you can access the web page you have created remotely by typing http://your_external_ip_address:8080/ in your browser. this will only work if port fowarding is correctly configured. you can access it locally [from your house, on your or another pc] by typing http://your_local_ip_address:8080/ in your browser. this will work regardless of wether fowarding is set up or not. alternately, i can come and set it up for you and buy some frags while im there drop me a pm if you want help with it

bubble looks to be perking up a bit [actually looks more like bubbles now instead of popped blisters]
-
heheh was waiting for that one. check it again today

i had already seperated them  the anemone is fine, its like a foot or more across and the bubble is about 3-4 inch. will have to keep a close eye on it & remove if starts to croak. my current tank is overstocked at the mo. i have just finished converting my 6x2x2 foot tank to marine, but auckland weather hasnt let me fill it with NSW yet. couldnt pass up buying a bunch of new corals when the opportunity came up
-
my long tentacle anemone has moved and had a go at my bubble coral. the bubble aint looking too healthy - anyone had any exp. with this? am i better off taking the bubble out now or could it come right..... cant put a photo up the missus has camera
-
mushies dont seem to like strong current - a few of mine jumped off their rock and basically floated arounf until they found somewhere more relaxing to grow. could try point a powerhead at it....
-
surely its just a cas of adjusting the air mix... maybe your return plumbing is too big for the volume of water travelling through it, making it necessary to draw more air so as not to syphon. all dursos i have heard are near silent. i hope the new one i have made is, havent filled tank yet
-
prob not that difficult, however it may be cheaper just to buy one given the size of your tank. basically you would need a titanium coil with cooling fins / titanium radiator(cant use stainless or alloy), a temparature triggered switch, all required plumbing, a fan to blow over the coil and a pump to feed it. one thing is for sure you will definately need a chiller of some sort. michael at pet planet, among others, sells them http://www.petplanet.co.nz/

hey freshies. due to his tank being converted to marine, i am looking to put a synodonotus[sp] catfish in a tank with goldfish. the tank is a reasonable size, has good water parameters, and does not drop below 24 deg. can anyone give me a good reason that i should not put the catfish in this tank? [the missus wont let me get rid of it, so this is the only option i have, apart from having a complete tank setup for 1 fish]

have just set up a webcam on my tank. its a "genius videocam express" like the second one down the list here : http://www.activecatalog.co.nz/prod/compulink/Products.aspx?catid=88&page=1 got the webcam software off the net. it runs a webserver on the machine the cam is plugged into. image quality is pure s**t, but good enough to see that your tank is full of water, the lights are on, and the fish are swimming. i think it was worth every cent of the $17+gst that i paid i am sure that a better camera would produce much better results, but you would still be limited to the upload speed of your internet plan. i am lucky enough to have 2meg out at home, but most adsl plans are about 192Kbps - this will govern the quality that you can broadcast. feel free to check it out, heres the link to the live stream: http://202.37.231.236:8080 username: fnzas password: ghostface *these will only work until midnight monday (i would like to keep some bandwidth this month, for downloading non-copyright media, open source software, and pictures of women with their clothes on ) Internet explorer users can use the "activex" option, any other browsers will need to use java. i have limited viewing to 3 users at once, and one frame per sec. at these settings, each user uses around 17KBps upload speed. the session will expire on you after about 10 min.
