    New Skimmer

that one was for reef about his homejob, he didnt seem happy with the price he paid to put it together. im sure you are happy with yours, i would be id like to go wide n short, like bubble king kinda dimensions, but maybe tall would be the one. i figure that with a short one, if you can get the water circling around the chamber a bit then the contact time will be quite long given the height.
  8. lolz i actually have a picture of one of those bacteria magnification x10000, as below note:bacteria also appears to have "bare bottom"

    Adding fish

i started with a chromis and a leather, they both still alive today. i knew 0 about reefkeeping - i used tapwater to mix salt, and had a trickle filter with no skimmer, and didnt do a water change for about 5 months  i would go with a chromis or 2, as they are only about $30 a piece, and they seem hardy as. a damsel may end up being a pain in the ass, some have a quite horrid temprament.

    New Skimmer

nice one. you dont sound very happy with it though, what was the problem? id probably follow the design of the ol deltecs but go a but fatter and shorter

    New Skimmer

im quite keen to build one of these - id like to go bigger [more diameter ideally, like 12-18 inch, but short enough that it still fits under tank] probably go with 2 pumps [like deltec 702 902 etc] as far as the cost goes, im sure i can make a better skimmer than my 850 for the price i could get selling it 2nd hand [thats a gonna start a fire   ] let alone the satisfaction of having made it yourself.... TM, are there larger diameter pieces of tube available? if i do end up doing one of these, ill put it up against a deltec ap850 for a few weeks. could you let us know where you got the parts for this? particularly the acrylic tube, baseplate, neck and fittings hopefully they are available in auckland. i presume that the neck / reducing part of the skimmer was pre-made, is this the case? if so, what sizes are available?

  19. i have access to dive tanks, i have been told that one will be ok for co2, so no prob there. mailny wondering which brand/s to look at. i like the look of the deltec one, however they use special fluidised media - not sure if you can use regular media in them.
  20. what brand Calcium Reactors are people using? anyone have a recommendation as to which model to buy for an 800l[approx] tank? what are all of the components required to get one of these puppies running? reactor regulator Co2 bottle pump bubble counter ph probe dosing pump etc or are there all-in-one kits you can get [minus the bottle of course] i am looking at getting one in the next few months
