    new tank

i remember wanting one of these types of tanks for my 1st marine mainly because they looked so slick. you could dick @ with it, throw out the lights, hood and filter and make it work...the reality is that you will get far better value and practicality by having a tank and stand made to suit;you will prob want an overflow, sump etc and neednt spend anymore than these tanks usually cost..
  2. seriously...who out there is HRV positive?? thank goodness i went for the DVS... 8)

    fish loss

been away for 3 days and come home to find the fish all quite shy, maybe because they havent seen anyone and got used to the quiet. the forcepiger is especially hard to find....until i blow him out by changing the streams angle :-? hes very dead.

  11. going away for a few days so i shifted a plug to make it more secure. well i must have tripped the rcd without noticing and so no skimmer and 22.7 c overnight
  12. ive seen them range from real small ' salt sprinkle' thru to quite large as in almost the size of 2 mm coral balls

    zeovit poll

probably good advice, the net result of adding zeovit is that im removing hair algae at a good rate. big clumps of it are falling off and ending up in the sump. when i was trying vodka it only seemed to slow the hair down and turn it blonde. early days but the other green algae seems to be dying off. this is the 1st week but its promising.
  14. I heat 220lts per time using a 2600w immersion heater. takes about 1/2 hr maybe little more.
  15. power costs @ $280/ month this time of year. my tank costs $50/month ( streams, 600w heating, 500w halides, skimmer and return)
  16. true, but youve gotta vote one way or the other.

    Phosphates

i would use greenx to stop draughts under the cat door. id go a few big water changes, use a good po4 remover, carbon, check my fresh topup po4 and then look to the cause?
  20. if your durso is standard as per his design, shouldnt you already have the 90 on there?

  22. ive got a standard durso where the inlet is a 90 degree bend. i just trimmed eggcrate down and sanded it till it was a snug push fit inside

    Overflow design

yeah im gonna change my nex..oops  better than glass tho, i must admit im thinking of removing the centre brace.it is useful for stacking stuff on when i frag @ with stuff, which ive been told ive gotta stop.
