JDM, do you wash your frozen mysis and discard the water? i drop mine in rodi to defrost and thro the water which is high in PO4. i use a stainless spring loaded ball type tea infuser (Briscoes $4) to wash it out.
the back glass is covered with many hundreds of small worms? they are white, circular and about 1-2mm across. what are they and do you just let them be? looks like stars at night as i'm just starting to get coralline growth.
can't post a photo as the cameras gone to japan.
a box of water with 4 big fish (your display) they do 4 poos a day per box. add a box of water with 1 big fish ( this fish is actually all your pods but iv'e simplified things somewhat) and it does 1 poo per day. the combined poos per litre are less when you add the 2 boxes together.
its a peristaltic pump with a float switch. set the level and never manually add fresh water again. it just draws it out of a barrel automatically to keep your level and salinity the same. pm jetski for a price.
i cant believe the simple difference an auto topup has added in terms of ease of maintainance, stability etc etc. i should have got one ages ago like some other bits and pieces. its actually quite funny to think of how i regarded all the necessary things like streams, halides etc when i started and what i now know...
whats the best new toy you've added lately??
seems to be a very wide ranging statement. possibly a refugium that has a lessor life population than the display would do exeactly the opposite,ie; it adds water volume with a net less load so pulls down the average load for the 2 combined.
i want to put new sand in but avoid the diatom bloom when i do so. if i put it in sw with a heater and circulation,do i need light to complete the process?i put a small amount in my display to try it for looks and got a diatom bloom within a cple of days.
no matter what anyone says, you cant beat the look of nice crisp white sand i got sick of my streams pushing it around and finally got some 5mm to replace it with.
$450 last month. no tank last year so easy to see my 1500 tank costs @ $120 per month. laguna, 2x 1250 skimmers, 2x 250w halides, 900 w heating, 2 streams...
save yourself some dosh and get the cheapie....with laser printers its a snip to make a Deltec sticker for it anyway. with a good copy of the sticker the resale value will be about the same.
if you are gonna stock a large tank it prob is a good idea to set up your own shop.....it would also be a fun way to spend your weekends answering lots of questions from people like me. if you do import , save some money and dont even tell MAF as it just makes things really expensive. they couldnt stop the rabbit virus so go for it i say..
