i run 2x deltec 1250 turbos in sump. outlet of skimmer facing in other direction and about 300-400mm away from return (laguna 7). micro bubbles not a major problem as i have the foam filters on the deltecs to minimise bubbles and the return pump as low as possible. actually i have no baffles in the sump, which gets @3000lts/hr thru it. (@15x sump volume)

isnt reef talking about a tap on the durso, not the return? i have a tap on the bottom of the tank, directly on the base of the durso. i can adjust the flow to make it silent, however if i turn the return pump off and on again (a power cut) the restriction will cause an overflow as there isnt enough spare margin to self adjust within the flow rate of the now restricted durso.

my LTA has been sad for about a week. it extends and retreats at weird times not related to the light as per normal, and of recent days has stayed out of sight with shrivelled tenticales and a very 'slack' appearance to the body. is this normal? also when a anemone dies or becomes terminal does it detach from its rock? thanks

are small bubbles coming off it? yes its cyano. the green is the photosynthetic pigments (chlorophyll) prob 2nd most common colour behind red.

i sometimes run filter wool under my outlet to the sump (3000ltrs/hr) and the wool is really dirty quite quickly. just started to try a 100 micron? filter sock yesterday and its picking up heaps so far (started yest arvo)

good luck Fay. to be realistic some owners of salt tanks are prob not reef safe either :lol: so the risk is all relative.

yep, just spotted a whole lot of babies. unsure how fast they grow. my tank is still so new i think i'll wait awhile yet before i look to get rid of some. prob do a post then to see who wants

whitening of what in particular? Cracker, please tell how much you dose for how many litres. some talk of possible effects to zoos and mushrooms; do you have any observations?

agreed, but at the size of some of them i'd like to avoid the pollution from them dying. not to mention the cost.

bummer, i lost my 1st shrimp soon after getting it and wonder why, it seemed very shy and lethargic from the start. the next 2 i got are totally different and even jump on your hand as well as be out all day.

good price, i'd go for it but my purple tang killed the last one within 10 mins of the clown going in.

now i seem to be on top of my hair algae i've probably got an excess of astraea snails. i need to reduce some before they get underfed. how many of these should i keep in a 1500x600 tank? rough idea or what no's you keep would be great, thanks.

i'm keen to chop my anemone as well. i've decided to cut it across rather than up and down so i end up with more of a floating jellyfish and a spare foot.(my tank isn't big enough for 2 anemones)

have you got lots of astraeas? i put a few in mine and cleaned up really well. also a slight overdose of the start can cause quite a bloom.
