Suck on the outlet and let the water flow into a bucket. That will fill the canister up and drive out the air. Then hook the outlet back onto the tank and turn it on.

Is the loach eating at all? If they are eating try feeding them more often with a variety of good sinking tablet to fatten them up. I found that fish from the importer are normally very skinny probably due to lack of feeding. When I get fish in especially loaches I normally feed them heaps to fatten them up. Ron

I was thinking that too. Don't have a KH kit at home so didn't test for KH. Had them for 7 months in the same tank without testing anything at all.

Moved the tank two days ago without disturbing anything and set the canister filter straight back on. Tested the water and all is fine except the ph crash to 5. Have no idea and really gutted.

What is your purpose of using the sponge in the first place? If you are going to go crazy cleaning it you will be killing all the good bacterial in it. If you're using it for mechanical filteration then it's ok . You can try using a water blaster to blast it.

Pentadon Butterfly fish will clean them up in no time.
