  1. Good news, there are some tiny frys which I can see. Not much because the female is young and small. Don't need alot  just a few stunning ones will do me :bounce: ron
  2. Amy, let me know if you want the recipes for steam or deep fried discus  ron
  3. Beautifullllllll to the Master. Now I have to get a part time second job to buy some of those. More picture please. Someone should set up a Betta Society of NZ and you be the President :bounce: Drooling Ron
  4. Thanks , I needed that and a bit of luck too  Ron
  5. Patience is the name of the game in breeding fighters. Clean water and good food will get them going. Do not overfeed or you'll end up having sluggish. No water current in breeding tank too. Just a heater will do if you don't have a heated room. Good luck . Ron
  6. Yes they are. Most of them are blowing bubbles and are ready for breeding. Come and have a look, they're calling your name  Ron
  7. Dixon, you have to get the wild fish thing out of your mind lol. How many fish that the hobbyist get to keep are wild especially in NZ. They are the first generation of colour crossing of Halfmoon. Hoping to develope some new and unique colours . Definately not crossing different strains of fighters  . Phoenix44, thanks for the encouragement and i'll keep you guys informed as they go. Cheers, Ron
  8. Thanks mate, hoping to improve the colour and finnage in F2. ron
  9. That was fast David, thanks for the comment Pic of them spawning The wrap around and squeezed Eggs falling and dad is picking them up Blowing them into the nest and another squeezed Hope you enjoy it Ron
  10. This is my HM that I bred They are about 3 mths old now. Put them in to spawn last night and they were doing it this afternoon. Will put some pic of them spawning after I resize them. Cheers, Ron
  11. First sign of gill flukes will be swollen gill. If you have a microscope, you can scrape the gill of the fish and have a look. Bacterial infections will be secondary. You can treat them with prazi or malachite green and formalin. Water condition is very important so do more WC. ron
  12. You have a bad case of Gill Flukes there. Ron
  13. Lemon is another way you can lower the PH. Combine it with tea bag and some ice cube for your fish to enjoy when they're tanning under the MH light  ron
  14. LOL, I know you want to set up a tank to have a go at breeding them. As for eating the eggs, all discus do that especially when they are not ready to breed.
  15. Having more filters running on a tank is good on the mechanical filtering part. On the bio part they will perform as Stella said. Overstocking a tank won't won't kill the fish if you perform more waterchanges. You don't have to cut back on feeding either. All you have to do is waterchanges. Remember to do more waterchanges :bounce: :bounce: ron
  16. Got your PM Meg. Can you take a head on shot of the fish. That fish looks to be pretty stunted. If the fish is eating well and the poop is not fluffy white in colour, then it probably needs to be properly fed with high protein food three times a day with daily water change of 50% or more. Keep the temp at 30 deg with an airstone in the tank. PM me your address . ron
  17. What make you think the discus have flagyl? Is the fish eating or getting skinny and how long have it been like that. How big is the tank and how many tablets do you need? If you have no luck finding some, PM me. ron
  18. Pigeon base discus will alway have peppering. It will show up when they are sick, excited, breeding, bad water condition and of course poor quality pigeon or pigeon base cross with patterned discus. ron
  19. How good is your eyesight? Did you remove the female after spawning? How deep is the water in the tank? The male might have eaten the eggs if you've been too nosey or the he might be firing blanks. If your female is a Melano Black (which I doubt) then they're infertile. Get a magnifying glass and a torch to see at night. ron
  20. Pays to put your location in the profile so someone close can help. ron
  21. Pay to check the area properly for eggs or wrigglers that they are protecting. If there is , you'll have to get another tank. ron
  22. sorry to hear about your discus problem. If you intend to grow them up then it's better to take out the gravel. Do a 50% water change daily and slowly increase the amount daily until you can do a total WC (turn heater off first). That will get rid of everything that is causing the problem. ron
  23. You know it's the right day Wok lol. Kung Hei Fatt Choi to you and family and "San Yee Heng Loong" Ron
  24. Hi all, Wishing you a Happy And Prosperous Chinese New Year. Cheers, Ron
  25. Wow! the tank look magnificent. Like the setout in the tank. Not too crowded with plants and heaps of space for the discus to swim around. Another 50 Cardinals would be awsome. Looks like the new discus have settled in well. ron
