  1. My power bills not toooo bad. I live in a one bedroom house, and all up including four tanks (2 x four footers, 1 x 2 foot cube and one small all in one, running two canister filters, two internal filters, a skimmer, but only lights on two of them atm, three heated) has been approx $150 a month.
  2. Has anyone tried breeding two blues together, just to see what happens? I have to get some money to purchase a blue first, and get the tanks sorted
  3. That's not a prob, I don't mind growing out if the quality's worth it. Do you know what price they were at? Last time I went they only had blues.
  4. Oh really? I did a search before but didn't see anything. I'll keep an eye out anyways
  5. Anyone attempting this yet? I'm very tempted to get started on doing this, I love the blues. However, though I've seen blues for sale, I haven't seen normal Dempseys in the pet stores! Where in Auckland usually sells them? And if you're trying to breed too, let me know
  6. Awesome fish... I'ma gonna get myself another big tank specifically because I want one of these. Of course he'd need tank mates, but they're the only reason I was looking at this side of the cichlid tank, straying from my Africans
  7. Or you could post them to me for my puffers
  8. Oh lucky you! I can't stop thinking about them either, just don't have the cash.
  9. Ooo, I was about to post about the blues. I'm hooked! Don't have the money yet but will buy at least one when I do. I keep on daydreaming every time I go into one of the shops. What are some good tankmates for them? One of the people at one of the pet stores has got his two in with an arowana and something else. I saw them for about $60-70 in one shop...
  10. Ok thanks. I might need to set up a tank just for rockpool creatures What about the shrimp? Are they ok in the tank for now? I was more catching shrimp for the puffers to eat, but there's three big ones still buzzing around.
  11. So my brother caught a fish from the beach, which I since discovered is this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acanthoclinus_fuscus I've put him in with some shrimp with the puffers, I stumbled across this thread because I was wondering if this was allowed, or illegal or something. He's doing quite well, at first he hid a lot but we see him out often now. He's only a littlie at the moment. Would he not be able to stay with my puffers (ie would the temperature kill him)? The shrimp which haven't been eaten (the bigger ones) seem to be doing fine.
  12. Yes two GSPs. I have done a lot of reading already, but just want any other tips and insights from owners
  13. So, I'm finally getting a couple of puffers thanks to an awesome member on this forum 8) I'm going to pick them up tomorrow. I've done a lot of reading, and the tank's being cycled by a couple of mollies (which will no doubt be eaten by the puffers when they're put in), salinity is correct. I'm just wanting to know EVERYTHING about these fish, any little tips, tit bits, possible tankmates, advice, or even just generally making the tank look good.
  14. Ah, what is generally the price of importing? I wanted to bring some crowntails over, but it was difficult to find more info.
  15. Gorgeous, where'd you get them from?! I'm definitely interested in some if you get survivors
  16. Well, the reason why I started searching was because I brought a whole lot of zebras, and I was amazed by how similar in body shape they looked to my dominant male. I was searching through the different types of zebras just in case, and saw that one, and spent half an hour comparing them and asking my brother and his gf for opinions (my computer's right next to my tank).
  17. Just stumbled across Pseudotropheus zebra...looks very very similar to my dominant male, especially this one is almost a spitting image! http://www.cichlid-forum.com/profiles/s ... php?id=846 Right down to the white stripes down the bottom front fins.
  18. I'm really wanting one of these...would they be alright with fighters?
  19. Hopefully I'll have at least one male, it just surprised me that one of my biggest seems to be the female. Hehe. Maybe could do a swap, if they do turn out to be females (which I doubt, but never know) then could send your male up in return for a few fry? Hehe. That's assuming I could get them to breed!
  20. Haha. Yeah, could've definitely have worked a swap. We'll see what happens
  21. Yeah, but my biggest definitely doesn't. I hope I don't end up will all females anyway!
  22. Actually looking closer at my Chilumbas, I actually think my biggest one is a female...no hint of egg spot whatsoever. But she looks too proud to be female. But that could be why it hasn't coloured up yet. I think my second biggest is a male though as its got the egg spots.
