  1. Okay, she seems to be hanging out at the top of the tank in between the heater and the outlet, so I might just do that. Probably there's less activity there. EDIT: Gave up on that idea. She's too quick and I don't want stress her out.
  2. I've got another little tank set up and has been running for quite some time now. Do you think it would be a better idea? If so, would she be ok to be netted. I am a lil worried, especially since I've got work and can't really keep too much an eye on her.
  3. Thanks for that. I'll keep an eye on her. I saw her being chased briefly once by the male, but otherwise she seems fine. All my Malawis seem to be quite mellow. I was always expecting some aggression but they seem to be quite good to each other.
  4. Yup, I just purchased one from Hollywood a couple days back.
  5. She seems a little full around the jaw and it doesn't seem as if her mouth is opening properly. What do I need to do? I put food out and she didn't seem to eat, so I'm picking it's fairly positive. Is there any special needs for her?
  6. That's what mine do, they don't touch the gravel sand, just go on their side and swiftly go in a wave like motion almost up and down for a split second.
  7. Will do the test, now that I think of it, I think it's only been my male Melanochromis'. They don't seem to touch the gravel sand when they do it tho. They swim up and down on their side in like a wave like motion.
  8. Hehe. Don't think it's that. They were doing it after my water change too, not too long ago. I try and change 20% every week.
  9. I've noticed a few of my malawis do it, seems mainly the Melanochromis tho (I think only them actually). But they'll do almost like a barrel roll at the bottom of the tank, like swimming on their side for about half a second. I don't think it's an illness, it seems quite purposeful, and they don't do often, but I do see 'em every now and again. What are they doing and why?
  10. Okay, cool, I'll try and get there then, depending on traffic on motorway
  11. Damn, I'm working till 7:30pm on Tuesday. Won't be able make it in time Been wanting to go to a meeting for ages!
  12. I've got Electric Blues and one blue Melanochromis.
  13. Finally set up and now complete with fish. About time! Excuse the crappy mobile pictures taken!
  14. Haha. Yes, yes I am. And I actually have a couple of fish (finally) in my tank! A few months later, but I got there eventually Got a couple of electric blues to cycle the tank just Thursday last week.
  15. Hard not to be a tight a$$ when you're barely paying the rent That's why it's taken me many months to finally get a tank up and running (believe I was wanting the tank since early November). I'll check it out anyways tho...
  16. Thanks guys. What are some good places around the Auckland area to get rocks? We were debating going to Rangitoto but after seeing ferry prices, decided against.
  17. Was looking for more natural ways rather than spending a whole heap of money What do I need to do if I pick up a rock from outside?
  18. Hey guys, Finally got my malawi tank set up, but it's looking a lil bare, I have a few rocks but looking for some more, interesting, rocks. Where's some of the best ways/places to get rocks? Thanks!

    Tank maybe?

Haha. Had a planted tank with my tropicals, not much a plant person. I prefer fishy colour and size  Forgive the technical terms, but I like the pale bluey-white guppies (albinos?), and the blues, and also big tails. Platties don't come in those colours do they? I like the tails espesh, having been a fighter person!

    Tank maybe?

Yeah, I need all the big parts. I wasn't thinking small small, to me a small tank would be about 60cm - 70cm in length. My mother's got a few "small" tanks in her garage and is forever asking me to have one, so I might just do that. Would still need heater/filter/light etc but might see if she has anything else lying around first... Think I should go for it? LOL. I'm thinking I should. Probably a bad idea. However, I'll be getting another part time job in a couple of weeks hopefully, so why not? Should get some okay money, working a full time job and a part time one.

    Tank maybe?

I'm not a fan of platties. I love the look of guppies. If I were to set up a small tank it would be guppies I've decided. However, the problem is wondering if I really should be setting up a new tank, or even thinking about it before my main tank is even set up...LOL I should hope my tank doesn't reach the hunchback stage. I'm not afraid to sell/cull fish, and I know that it does happen with breeding.

    Tank maybe?

I used to breed crowntail fighters, I want something which will look pretty but breed easy, and which I can have multiple males I still have my one lil third generation guy, Bob, who hasn't grown much really, but I can't give him up, he'll be a pet for the rest of his life.

    Tank maybe?

As some of you know, I'm planning on setting up a Malawi tank. However, I've decided my bench has the perfect space for a smaller tank, and kinda juggling with the idea of having a planted guppy only tank as well, just to fill that space and make things a bit brighter. What do you guys think? I'm fussy about the type of guppies I like though, so uncertain as I want the majority of my spending money to go towards my Malawi tank. My Malawi tank will need to be set up well before I even think of buying a guppy tank though!

    Not Happy

Yeah, I think next time I'm just going to save up and buy a brand new one, mind when I've brought smaller tanks off TM in the past I've never had this hassle!

    Not Happy

Oh dear :-? Do you want some payment for the tank I recieved from you? I don't have a lot of money but I can send you some when I get paid. I had filled it up briefly with the hose, but had emptied it the same day and it had seemed fine. I'm really annoyed with the trader now!
