I agree 100% I've had Lelus and although the ones I had very nice nice you could tell that at some point in their past they were a cross of different colours which just seems like a waste...
  2. Yeah it really sucks, especially as like I said he was about to make baby hankies...
  3. RIP Mr hanky I just got home and found him dead in his tank I have no idea why - the water is fine and he's been eating normally... Its very sad cause he was about the enter into a 'relationship' and hopfully make babies up in Auckland... very sad

I would keep the colours true if I were you - its not very easy to find good strong colours in NZ and personally I think it would be a bit of a waste to cross them. A to the whole possible hybrid debate - I don't think they would be classed as hybrids either, but I still think you should keep them separate to retain the more interesting variation in our limited gene pool!
  5. What year are you onto davidb? I'm in 3rd now and I've noticed a REAL increase in work load! I've just spent 6 hours straight on a lab report thats only worth 7% and I'm still not quite finnished yet! Also just got home from doing a glowworm count at Karori Wildlife Sanc. We see kiwi most nights which is pretty cool but only saw tuatara tonight! (heard the kiwi calling though) Anyway - better get back into the report!
  6. awesome! dream job for me too! (I'm dong 'Marine Bio' and 'Ecology and Bioviversity' at Vic)
  7. Yeah thats a Sea Spider - I know that from Marine Bio at uni, but I don't keep marines so I've got no idea if they are ok in your tank!
  8. haha, Nice! any of the giant kokopu though?
  9. COOL! that sounds awesome! I'd love to see them some time! Any pics?
  10. yeah that is pretty full on... and why I always give him fish he can eat in one mouthfull!
  11. Yeah Kings are great - they would have it for sure!
  12. I have from www.aquriumproducts.com.au Well - it was actually when I was in brissy last year! but they've got good stuff and cheap too. Just so you know he told me he would ship to NZ but only if it was a good sized order (ie over $300). I would recomend them though
  13. Good garden centres should have it... if the big chains don't try a smaller privately owned one
  14. Oh! Forgot to say that Mr Hanky is officially on hold and probably sold. Just thought I'd let people know before you all start dreaming!
  15. Cool! That would be interesting to watch... did any of the young survive?
  16. Did you know that the NZ Torrent Fish's closet reletive is the Blue Cod?! (Apparently) so yeah - our freshwater fish are VERY related to our marines as well as many having a diadromous life cycle...
  17. very true david - not the most active fish! but really cool all the same and they are pretty hard to come by!
  18. Hey guy's I thought I'd stick it here first so anyone who's added to this post gets the heads up! I'm thinking/probably going to sell Mr Hanky...
