ryanjury
I know most the calculators assume euro bracing and say that 10mm glass is sweet, so when taking bracing away would you goto 12mm glass?
#!CrunchBang
Yes, My one the same size had to be 12mm because there was no bracing in the middle.
Zayne
my 4 foot braced is 6mm so i would say 10 mm is quite thick for that size
Squirt
my 4 foot braced is 6mm so i would say 10 mm is quite thick for that size +1 :dunno: seems a little thin to the 10mm. I have 6mm fully braced on my 4' too, plus it's what they sellin shops...
livingart
if your going rimless on 2 foot deep I'd go to 12mm
ryanjury
if your going rimless on 2 foot deep I'd go to 12mm Lol bugger that wont be cheap ESP with star fire on the front.. But yeah it was what I was expecting anyway just thought might have got away with 10mm.
livingart
you could use 10mm i said 12 to give extra safety factor you could silicone in a small triangle in each top corner
Warren
You can calculate the actual thickness of the glass by replacing the apha and beta constants with the ones below which modify the glass thickness calculator for the top edge of the glass unsupported.

a/bbetaalpha

0.50.080.0036

0.6670.12460.0099

10.20.04

1.50.360.167

20.440.416

Warren
Here's the results:

Safety FactorThicknessDeflection

29.95mm4.76mm

2.511.2mm3.41mm

312.19mm2.59mm

3.513.16mm2.06mm

3.813.71mm1.82mm

12mm Glass will give a safety factor of 2.91 - it's up to you to decide if this is enough... diver21
looks like 10mm is still good with a saftey factor of 2ish. You could always drop the height a little, 20-18inch?
Squirt
( :smot: is there something wrong with the online glass thickness calculator? I've stuck in my values of my tank: 1700 length and 300 depth and 10mm glass and it's got a safety factor of 19?!)
antwan
10mm is pretty thick for only 300 high
Squirt
It's 580 high with about 300mm of water, so it is correct? (I was told to only use the values of the waterh height)

blueether
my 1200*600*600 tank is only made in 10mm glass with end bracing only

Sweet cheers Warren might just go drop the depth to 500 to get the safety factor a bit higher..
Warren
At 500mm tall and 10mm glass you will have a safety factor of approx 3.
buzzy
my tank is 500mm high, 10mm glass and rimless, when the tanks full there is a slight bow in the glass when looking down it but its been fine for the last few years and have never lost sleep over it! If you can get 12mm or even 15mm then I would.
