Sophia
15 watts doesn't sound a lot for a big tank like that. Mine is 7watts and was 22 litres, now about 38 ish. I will get them some more buddies next pay day :happy1:
Ismart120
Yeah, its not ideal but its fine for now, and I'm only growing low light plants for now really anyway. More of the loaches or different species for them to attempt to make friends with? :slfg:
Sophia
more dwarves, anything bigger would look silly in my little tank
Ismart120
I guess... Any recent photos? And whats the stocking at the moment, with the new tank and all?
Sophia
sorry, no photos yet, I took some tonight but it's too silty and the rocks aren't in their final positions. Am getting more crypts on Thursday from L'Obstacle too, plus I'm adding more black sand for a cleaner look. At present it's a mix of all the sands I've had in there with a sprinkling of gravel. It must be near perfect before I show the world! Stocking at present is the same, 7 rasbora, 4 loaches, 1 shrimp. Am thinking I will get another 3 loaches and maybe another 3 rasbora, depending on funds and prices. I think your lighting is fine for loaches and if the plants are happy that's cool too. I was just saying it didn't sound overly bright so that couldn't be an excuse for the loaches hiding. Mine are stlll a bit hidey tonight, exploring their new caves and waiting for me to get my fingers out of there for a while.
Ismart120
Ah right, yeah, I can understand that hey, I'm kinda similar. As for the lighting, I think I still want it a little brighter in the long term, but thats mostly so I can grow more plants, which should in theory provide more shade and therefore have no effect on the loaches. Hopefully.... You wouldn't consider a center piece fish? I find everyone thinks the tank looks better with a brightly coloured fish for them to aw over, even though I try to tell them its the loaches that the tanks set up for mostly. :slfg: Me: "Look at the awesome loaches" Everyone else: "Oh yes, they're um great to look at - Oh thats a pretty fish!" Me: "yeah, thats just the gourami I put in to make you think my tank was more interesting.... but look at the loaches!"

Ismart120
Exactly, its what I normally use myself... And hey, they are pretty awesome.
paige.xo
I love fighters. I plan to breed them soon. Also, want to breed cories... but I only have three at the moment. ( :smot: )
Ismart120
Bringing it back on topic slightly with the breeding, Sophia, you should totally try to breed your loaches, and then tell me how to do it... :spop:
Sophia
haha OK, just for you :slfg: When I had 5 loaches they were so active and busy that they were the main feature, that's who you would see swimming about if you sat down to watch Fish TV. So once everything is settled I will be happy with more of them without a feature fish. We will see however, when my masterpiece is finished, not burning my bridges yet

Sophia
Full tank shot Full tank shot closer Left side Right side Changes – tank now about 15-20 litres bigger. 2 previous driftwoods now on the left. Back one with old loach cave has had a big hole drilled in the side for a bigger hidey spot, angled so I can snoop on the cuteness. New piece of driftwood added on the left with lots of anubias nana. Another cave underneath that goes all the way under and out the other side. Added some more rocks to the centre and round the edges to give plants stability. Used more pea gravel underneath the top layer of sand, as it comes through to the top it looks more natural than just sand. Lots more crypts of various kinds dotted around. Will see what remains after any melting. Other than that I’ve tried to keep the layout and fittings as similar to previous as possible so it could be a low budget/less fish stress upgrade. It’s not just the photo quality that makes it look sort of blackwater-ish, there is still a fair bit of silt on the leaves and wood and the water isn’t completely clear yet. The new wood is leaching some tannin in the water too. I anticipate 1 more fish death as the less skinny loach is not getting fatter after all. More loaches to come on payday. Ismart120
Thats looking really good, it'll be awesome when the crypts come into their own hey
Sophia
2 more loaches added. One is still a bit hidey so I usually see 5 out and about. They had a good breakfast of mosquito and daphnia this morning.
Sophia
It took about a week and a half for the newbies to settle in, now I see fish back at the front of the tank again and usually 6 at dinner time. bloodworms also seemed to help them realise what an awesome and generous owner I am
the-obstacle
You need another 700 or so litres in that tank.
anthony law
You need another 700 or so litres in that tank. +1.... :digH: :spop: :gigl: nice weeeeeeeee setup you got there sophia.... :nfs: if you stop buying muffins ..you should be able to get a bigger tank... :digH: :gigl:
Ice222
Somehow I kind of like small tanks though. It's like you can look at the whole tank at once, even if you're sitting close to it . Plus I like small fish too, and for many kinds of small fish eg. pygmy cories, you'll never see them in a big tank. I think I remember sophia mentioning being a small fishy fan too. Only downside to small tanks imo is you can't put as many fish in it.
Sophia
A good nano tank calls for great precision and discipline.... so many people are not awesome enough to be able to keep one. Luckily I have enough awesomeness to be able to keep 2 cool nano tanks and still have some awesomeness left over to spend on muffins :rotf: :cofn:
Joe
:sml1: I've never been an awesome person, so maybe my nano tank that I'm getting will be a disaster?
Sophia
No way, yours is too well planned for that to happen and only an awesome person could breed such cute floofies.
