Dougstark
Big ponds with lots of fish are always great especially on a sunny spring day.

Foxglove
Looks great! I spent a while enjoying my pond-full of minnows in the sun today. Glorious and nice to see the females starting to fill with eggs. :bounce:
Caryl
The water stays clear all by itself, much to my amazement since there is little surface plant yet (despite my efforts to grow some) and full sun (well hopefully one day we will get full sun again :-? ). It has a large pond filter plus the decks overhang the water by about 3 meters each end. It also has a small trickle of fresh water continually running into it from a ballcock. imsweet
Love your pond pics Caryl. Hope to have a biggie too one day.
Cheesejawa
WOW caryl those are amazing. How do you get your goldfish so red?
Caryl
I chose the reddest I could find when I started and they bred more red ones There is a lot of colour variation in goldfish and I really like the dark reds. Have no interest in calicos or shubunkins.
Caryl
Even warmer today and the fish went nuts in the plants. Here they are in the love shack... I am sure there will be lots of fry arriving soon.
preacher
Hi all, it's definately getting warmer alright. We've had 3 days of glorious sunshone here in the Hutt Valley. I went out last night to a dwindling pool by the river and picked up a few more bullies for the pond (nice big fat eel in the pool too, wonder what he's been eating...) I went out to the pond tonight with the torch to check on them all, spotted 2 nice fat Koura lurking about and got the shock of my life when I saw a frog on a log. I went back out later and found a second in the weed. It's months since we last saw them, I hadn't expected them so early in spring though. Hoping we get some spawn, my going on 3 year old would love it. I wonder if the Koura will enjoy playing with the tadpoles.... P.
museeumchick
Munch Munch Munch I'm sure they'll love it, but perhaps the tadpoles wont like it so much? :bounce:
Caper
OH my gosh Caryl, those pics are absolutely awesome Is it just goldies in there? How many fish do you think? Caper
Caryl
Only goldfish. Counted 56 the other day but there is about 70 in total I think. Hard to count them

Caper
cruisin (except for the little guy at the bottom who is bucking the trend) Which way did they go....which way did they go? Maybe a male and didn't want to ask for directions! Now we need a pic of the entire pond, please Caper
Caryl
Ta dah! Still bare as we have just come out of winter.
Ira
Once it warms up enough you need to throw some plecos in there. Or bristlenoses.
Caryl
It's getting them out again once the temperatures drop that's the problem, otherwise I would! I think I will breed odessa barbs outside again this summer (but not with the goldfish!)
alanmin4304
In my experience they are active during high pressure systems regardless of other weather conditions.

Heir
Probably the same reason you don't like things other people do? Personal preference.....
