It is one of the many strains of Scalare - Angels have been cross/inter bred for so many generations now that they often appear very different even though they share a common genetic background. Most of the names people give them are simply convenient descriptions of how they look, e.g. 'marbled' or whatever, but they are the same species.

It has a number of genes but the red gills is caused by the blusher gene. They can have one or two of each gene and this has two blusher genes which are actually a gene for "stripeless". This gene is recessive to a number of genes including striped (ordinary) and black. A white angel has double blusher and double gold. It may also have a single gene for veiltail but keep an eye on it in case it has damage to the tail which may result in fin rot. It is hard to see from the picture.

one fish does have bits of its tail missing??

Dont worry too much about that, it will heal over time if the fish is healthy and the water conditions are good.

Just keep an eye on it, if it gets a fluffy fungus or seems to be eaten away more then it has an infection that needs to be treated.

Most times it will heal up fine though.

Cheers

Ian
