David R
Nope AFAIK. Altho a batch of juvi's at about 1-2cm would look very similar to jags.....
Caryl
Yeah. Years ago we bought what was said to be a Dovi but we realised, eventually, it was actually a Jag

David R
I'd rather have an umbee.
firenzenz
Was having a beer with an Aussie who keeps Umbees. he's also kept dovii's and thought Umbees smatter and tougher. 24+"- Awesome show piece. But then why not just get one of those Super red Texans- They're amazing

Yeah apparently there's plenty of them in australia, many people breeding them there. Might have to go for a holiday and try track some down...
Luke*
I do like the dovii, just so aggressive beyond reason haha. These are aka the Wolf Cichlid right?
David R
According to Real Cichlids Don't Eat Quiche umbee's are even more aggressive. "Ranging from Panama into Colombia, The Blue Freckeled Monster is truly a sight to behold. Unlike the Guapotes, umbriferum prefers to swim in the open waters and needs plenty of swimming space. Tanks less then 500 gallons will not do justice to these amazing fish. A predator that feeds on any fish it can fit into it's large mouth. Pictures of these fish are very difficult to come by as they always go crazy and attack the glass when you are near the tank because their territory extends beyond the limits of the tank. The following pictures were taken while someone was distracting the fish on the other side of the tank."
Luke*
freaky fish i bet they grow fast when they're small chewing up heaps of meat or (gold)fish

A predator that feeds on any fish it can fit into it's large mouth A point discussed over the beer with the Aussie . He'd waited eight yrs to find a decent Umbie, and even his 900ltr tank is too small for this ""one"" fish. Fish who can grow into their water are ultimately going to do best, so unless totally devoted you may well be dissapointed by what you end up with.
