I don’t think it is a matter of how much rock you need but I have found that if you have too little rock then it is hard to have many corals as the rock allows you to fit in more corals.
I feel corals would add more waste than rock as they are shedding waste all the time.
The golden rule is balance, take out too much nutrients and then you also get problems.
If it was that simple by keeping less rock and going BB , then every BB would be spectacular, as yet I don’t see many.
There is your answer, Aihua are not good bulbs, that is why they are so cheap.
cant find the par rating on them but they are so dim you can look at the bulbs while it is on.
I am pretty happy with my set up. it has everything i want . only think i would change is my lighting would remove 4x400w and change to 8x250w or 150w. spread of light would give better results.
fish get mysis shrimp, flake, bannana, nori, salifert pellets, marine A,
Only feed once a day during the week and twice on the weekend.
Corals get reef roids, reef booster, amino acids
I try to stay away from frozen foods as they do contain high po4.
Some new pics.
Corals are growing very well since checking my Kh/Cal.
Kh runs at 3meg/l and cal 420ppm.
Another change of bulbs as not happy with the SPS bulbs. New bulbs going in will be reefluc 12000k , hopfully will be brighter with a small amount of blue, par ratings look good.
Indeed iron base removers will also remove organics other than po4.
Still bottom line for me is i cant get away from only using a skimmer to remove po4.
Rowaphos it is until something better.
