  2. Full on article http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2004-08/eb/index.php Good to see the work done on the reefs. Maybe it would be a good idea if we stopped the importing of coral/fish as it is pretty sad what is happening to the reefs around the world.
  3. Can't they just get more. I am sure there will be plenty of these corals in Florida. One thing i don’t understand is, if these are rare corals, would it not be better to get them propagating.
  4. That will hammer his credibility, given he is so well respected.

As long as the power is on it will work I have used a IKS for many years and never had a problem as they have safety features built in. The IKS is becoming outdated so i thought i would try a new type as this unit is one of the best around. Having a aquarium computer gives you piece of mind when you go away for a few days/weeks as it will monitor and text/sms you if something goes wrong. here are some pics.

  10. try these links http://www.pwgazette.com/rofaq.htm http://www.pwgazette.com/roremove.htm http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/links- ... t7074.html info i found Reverse osmosis units remove substantial amounts of most inorganic chemicals, such as salts, metals (including lead), asbestos, minerals, nitrates, and some organic chemicals, by allowing tap water to pass through a membrane and collecting the filtered water in a storage tank. Alone, reverse osmosis units are not recommended for use on microbiologically unsafe water. Before you buy an reverse osmosis unit, be aware of its characteristics. Typically, about 75 percent of tap water put into the reverse osmosis system is wasted, so it may take 4 gallons or more of tap water to get one gallon of reverse osmosis filtered water. Also, the tap on the tank where the treated water is stored flows more slowly than the tap on your regular faucet. In addition, the most common membranes used in reverse osmosis units are subject to decay and failure and must be replaced periodically. Owners of reverse osmosis units should follow the manufacturer's recommendations about proper maintenance and use.
  11. The tank does appeal, well planed tank
  12. That is up to you if you dont have a LFS try LFS/wholesalers as they might courier items as it is all about getting exposure in the area to get people in the hobby As i mentioned RO units are not LFS core business and there are many filter places that do RO units . Yellow pages is a good place to look.
  13. I doubt getting a ro unit from overseas is an issue as it is not retailer’s core business and they would sell less than a few units a year and only supply them as a service to add value. I think i have seen some at Hollywood fish farm for about $400. I don’t think it had the tds meter on it. I never use my tds meter. By the time you land the $199us unit it will be over $400nzd with GST and freight. Also the US RO parts might no match the NZ parts if you need a replacement . There are plenty of places in NZ that do RO units as it is their core business. Nothing wrong with your post volkster just some people like to stir .

I have never used carbon with ozone, the reason is that putting in 50/100mg is not much at all. Never lost any fish coral due to ozone. Putting it into a skimmer will remove most of the ozone before it goes back into the tank, providing you have a very good skimmer. Both ozone/uv have some benefits however they both break down amino acids, iron etc, For UV to work best you should have it inline with the main pump but the downside is getting a UV that can handle 3000L plus cost big time. Pond uvs are no good for saltwater tanks due to the way they are designed. None is a miracle tool that will give you a perfect reef tank ,but both have pros/con. the real benefit is in fish only tank. From the tanks i have seen most dont use them at all, its more on american tanks. i dont see many europeans use them as that is where the best tanks are in my opinion. Most marine books by well known authors dont really say much about either as a must have for a reef tank, however as above i think they do add some value. All this talk on Ozone has just reminded me to go and turn the ozone for a few hours to polish the water.

You dont need a orp controller for Ozone, i have never used one as you have to calibrate the thing all the time and clean it. With ozone you will run a higher orp, howver too high and it is also no good for the tank. ozone will give you crystal clear water, however i found you also get nitrates quicker as it breaks down ammonia which goes to nitrate. I use ozone maybe once a month for a few days and then turn it off. You haveto watch that you dont burn your coral as the ozone will clear the water so the light will be brighter for the coral thus it can burn them. Ozone also kills bacteria which can be a good thing. The Myripristis Jacobus soldier fish are cool. The tank is missing a substrate
  22. Its aquarium speak , it does not mean a real cube, like having a 6ft tank. does that mean it is 6ft l x w x h.
  23. its a 4ft cube tank. not 4ft tall.
  24. Nice tank, The Miracle Mud is working well. your brother is not that little.
