i am sure he will be ok, he will pick all day on bits in the tank. better to underfeed than overfeed while you are away. fish can live for weeks without food.

We won’t really know if it is useless until it has been seen in action as it might have a nice effect on a tank by giving it a more natural look and might work well with streams. glitter lines is not its only feature. Best to wait until reviews are out before any judgments can be made. Very good points raised by nemies as the glitter lines are not stationary as i was wondering if it would reduce light. however as it is not stationary then it might produce more light which is a minor benefit for many as i feel we are sometimes over powering out tanks with light. especially my experiance has been that since reducing light over my tank i have not noticed loss in quality in my corals since reducing some lightig from 400w to 250w.

this is how the schuran reactor should work, it is not air, its co2, the bubbles are way lower than before as i did not let all the air out so before it was working like a skimmer and foaming inside. Schuran sent me a photo of the commercial units and they also have bubbles inside which is co2 not air. wasp it is not cloudy, just a bad pic. will test in a few days to see what is coming out.

Ok we are up and running, stopped most of the bubbles, still bubbles but that is normal. here are some pics This was before with all the foam so will see how it runs over the next few weeks. Will add a solinod valve soon. turning off teh co2 at night manually.

i will get the shut off valve when i get the reactor going correctly, Still having problems with air bubbles inside the reactor, could be the first skimmer/calcium reactor combined For the shut off valve all you need is a solinoid valve and a timers.

yes, oct 2002 . long time ago. only seems like yesterday. Looks like i will have to spend a day cleaning my tank as not done much to it over the last few months. Its rare to get a NZ tank in any mags so have to make the most of it.

Lucky i found this thread. 4 or so years after My tank being in the PKF magazine tanks of the world i get a call from out the blue as they want to do a update soon on my tank. Should be good to see how much it has changed over the years and all the others they did at the time.

the crypts are not amazon. Plants selection is pretty crap in NZ. I started off with amazon plants and gave up and added a few craps. My tank is about 80% amazon plant species. Who said you cant get discus to grow in a planted tank My discus have grow so much during the past 2 months that i am really surprised how they are growing. will post some pics in 5 mins

Some of the larger lfs might have some? They are not very popular so that could be why you dont see them. Also most of them are just stamped 10k for the aquarium trade.

I use jbl aqua basis plus, and mixed with jbl floropol which is red clay. All work great. i found you still have to add fertilisers, so i add seachem excel and flourish. looking to hook up the dosing pump and dose daily. Plants growing out of the tank. Metal halides is also a big plus.

Reactor update, Been running for 24hrs so far, My kh has inceased and already noticed some white tips on corals which is a sign of growth. Next step is to add night shut off valve.

My tank swings from say 26-30c in summer and in winter pretty much stays at 26c
