Another risk when using NSW. The other problem in using nsw is that you have a potential to close down the marine hobby. Maf is getting very anal about importing fish these days and there is a risk that a new organism can be introduced into nz water, it is very low risk however the risk is there.
  2. Pitty they did not show iot 5 years ago as it is quite old,
  3. why bother, there are tank makers in chch. might cost a little more but at least you dont have any risk with shipping.
  4. ASB is one step ahead.
  5. The eelgrass might be ok for a display but not good as a nutrient exporter as it it not like caulerpa algae which grows far quicker.
  6. That was a cool documentary. The Maf guy said pacu was allowed in. I am sure i have not seen it on the list. The maf guy is a very nice person, left some time ago. unlike the ones in wellington who are trying to close the Hobby
  7. We can get them , but the twin spot wrasse are not reef safe when they get big, Birdknose wrasse will eat shrimps.
  8. What about a pair of genicanthus bellus
  9. When the fauna marin comes in you can use all the other prodibio products and just use the fauna marin bacteria.
  10. They allowed it in as they did not worry about bacteria, but it should have been done . Big mistake by MAF, cost me thousands as the product had to be sent back and some was destroyed.
  11. Its not on the banned list. just not allowed in until it has a permit, Cant get a permit until the bacteria is approved by ERMA. could take years, Like zeovit , it is also not allowed in, However got permits for fauna marin products, which has been a approved, should be available 4-8 weeks time http://www.faunamarin.de/eng/ MAF is trying to close down the fish hobby. they make everything so hard. Until more people complain nothing will change.
  12. you can use your old threads, no need to start a new thread for every question. http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/re-res ... 29102.html

this should make good reading . experts in waitakere have been saying it for years and years. only now it makes the papers http://www.nzherald.co.nz/category/stor ... d=10499855 However it says. Chemical contamination of Auckland shellfish is low by international standards and shows no deterioration. Thats good. should not effect clams
  14. Why risk adding it to your tank, solve the cause of the problem, adding antibiotics is only going to solve it for the short term.

Try the store you got it from. they should be able to help
  16. Nothing wrong with Caulerpa at all. good algae. if you dont have much the tangs will eat . best to put it in a sump if you have some.
  17. Their are thousand of organisms ERMA does not have listed. All their records are outdated. Ask them to show you a record that oxygen is in New Zealand. At one stage they said nitrabacter was not in new zealand or any of the bacteria in filters. Been dealing with the crap for 5 years and it starts to wear you down.
  18. I did not do that for my tank. put sand in from day one. Find the best thing is just to use a gravel cleaner. dirt is part of the ecosytem
  19. Should be ok. As mentioned nsw can be that high. Once you dose magaesium in your tank wait a few days before testing as it can take a few days for levels to rise.
  20. I use a level spoon, but if it is heaped it does not make a much difference. where did you get the test kits from? .
  21. Fantastic idea to have a boot camp. Might not help all but will help many with discipline and set some standards. Got nothing to loose to do it as everything else has not worked.
  22. tank looks dirty to me. xenia is doing well, good sign of high nutrients. I noticed it in my tank, when the xenia was doing very well i had high nutrients. They are not growing very fast at the moment due to my tank being very clean. what bulbs are you using? colour does look yellow. quite a big tank i would add more current, some like a tunze stream 6100. the tunze nanos are too small for tanks that size. I would do a 50% water change. with ro/di water. gravel syphon the sand. check kh/cal as you dont seem to have any corraline algae, reduce the metal halides to 6 hours a day.
  23. So your cyno problem should get better in a month or so, it will take time to remove the nutrients from the rock, nothing happens overnight.
  24. That is bad should be zero, you are adding nutrients to your tank. that is what is causing your cyano. In a closed ecosystems you have waste produced by the fish/food and then you add more nutrients from your tap water.
