    Phyto

I dont think that will do anything. nothing to adapt to. i did not does the full amount anyway. So far have not seen any major results on all corals, but maybe i just did not notice at this stage. My red goniopora is doing ok and is fully open, just added it so had to tell at this stage. Spoke to steveA who also has seen no results on his acropora , his gorgonia is doing better as it is growing quicker. will dose for another week or so and stop and see if i notice anything after i stop dosing as this might be more noticable.

    Who set you up?

I was into freshwater for some time and loved the marines at Hollywoods. Could not afford it so after 5 years or so when i had enough cash to do a decent tank it all started. Must have spent about $500 a week for about 6-12 months. Used to rush in on shipment days with about 12 others waiting at the door at 5pm. Getting a acropora in those days was like getting gold. today you find them in the garden

    Phyto

Ok, update on phyto dosing. Its been almost a week. Started dosing 40ml/100L. so thats about 800ML for my tank. almost a bottle. 3 days on i reduced it to 1/2 as my skimmer pulle dout so much i had to empty it. Dosing has been reduced to 400ML as i my tank started to show signs of excess nutrients due to my live rock going sort of a dark green colour. Also the fact that my skimmer was pulling out so much. Since reducing the dose things seem to settle down. In terms of acropora showing greater polyp extenstion is yet to be seen but red goniopora does seem to be open more than normal. Nothing more to report
  5. No need to hatch brine shrimp all the time as the seahorses will take frozen foods. The adults will take the small brine and if you turn the pumps off they will be able to get them easier. No sure how the hatch'n'feeders will work in saltwater tank as you dont want any of the brine water getting into your tank as it it huge in nitrates.
  6. Should not be a problem. You will be able to feed them brine shrimp and frozen brine shrimp/mysis

    Miracle Mud

Update photos of the caulerpa growth. Pretty outstanding. Please pm if you want some as i am ready to trim and throw it out.
  8. For sure, Times are also getting tuff with the economy. making cuts myself as sky tv is getting more expensive every time i open the bill.
  9. sorry my mistake, i thought future chiller would be by next year, not in 20 years time.
  10. Best to take the skimmer off the old tank and start skimming on the new tank. The old tank will do fine without it. just make sure you have pumps still in the old tank to move the water around. They will be ok. What are you trying to chill, its is winter

Day one of the trial has started. Dosed 800 ML tonight. will be dosing every second day but will reduce the dose to 400 ML next week. Will post before pics and after once i can clean my tank and remove all the excess corals from my substrate. Dont expect any results yet but noticed the goniopora opened a little more after feeding. will updated weekly.

    Miracle Mud

Not the same, MM has slow release vitimins /minerals added, so that is why you have to change 1/2 every two years.

    Miracle Mud

Its a product name. gets your attention. seems to work well. the last time i read the packet it says what is in it. unlike some product who say nothing. Once again all systems we use are a tool so you have to work out what you want to achieve and what time you want to spend doing it. Is like a tennis player, they dont use all the same tennis rackets so they get one that suit there needs. Unless your are Roger Federer who could be using a tooth pick and still beat us all.

    Miracle Mud

MM is ideal for all corals and why would xenia like nitrate? Xenia like to have a bit of organics in the tank not necessay nitrate. MM is only another tool to export nutrients . pretty much like a protein skimmer, Because you need minerals like iron etc, which is used by most corals and the algae. iron for one is very import to corals and very helpful in keeping goniopore alive. There are many type of nutrients that are not removed by the skimmer but used by the algae. MM also helps in removing nitrate most like due to the compacted Mud.

    Miracle Mud

MM is not all about growing algae, the algae is optional, The mud feed the algae and it adds minerals/vitamins to tank. I have a number of tanks with algae and they dont grow as fast and are not rich in colour like the algae that is the Mud. Mico algae will grow in any tank but not at the same rate, you do want it to grow fast so it can remove organics in the tank. Not sure, its a type caulerpa. not taxifolio

    Miracle Mud

Thats why it is good for nutrient export.

    Miracle Mud

I see the Tank of the month uses miracle mud. http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2008-05/totm/index.php Anyway for me it is working well, the algae is growing well, i only run the lights over the algae for 12 hrs a day. You see so many hobbyist say it will crash if you dont run 24/7 lighting over it, but as yet i am still waiting. i have 4 types of alage and they all are growing well. I am trying to see if the alge will crash if i get my nutrient very low, but as yet it still grows well but a little slower. Here are some pics of the sump. Before after

    Great looking Tank

Thats how the fish look. no roses , I would say reef central would be doing the editing of the photos. Thats what all the Magazines did when i sent them photos. My tank will be on the new freeview digital TV in a few months so will see how they edit it.
  24. Not really. maybe 20% at best.

    Great looking Tank

Photos are not that bad. the fish look normal to me. It is just a outstanding tamk. Very hard to get good photos with the amount of light he has as they do make the corals less colourful so you have to photoshop them. especially with the bulbs he is using.
