  1. That was a funny joke Brianemone. i Might have to invest in the real quality of the weipro , would make a nice toy for the kids. I think anyone will say a weipro is good if they have not used a proper skimmer before . There is nothing wrong with the deltec as it is normal to do that . here it is the review on the deltec skimmer. http://www.advancedaquarist.com/2005/8/review
  2. What is the most sort after fish? this is mine
  3. you can add a fish or two, however using rain water is no good as it contains bactaria, and all the organics ,, need to get a DI unit.
  4. .25 nitrite is not a problem, any new tank will have some nitrite. and with a high ph it is not a major concern. do you filter you fresh water before adding it to the tank???
  5. I did not say it does cause RTN, i said it can. I am sure you will be aware that people have lost acros using it, i know i have and so have many on reef central. There will be many reasons why it is happening. some people dont follow instructions, could drop nutrients too low, could be something in the zeolite etc, etc.

If you are on a low income then it could be.also you could have the book within a day, instead of waiting 3-4 weeks. It depend how you perceive value. In todays terms $40 is nothing.
  7. It all comes down how you want the tank to look, some people like blue, some like white etc, i am sure that bulb should be ok for the corals. The syvania bulbs do show a bit of a green colour however they do show good growth in corals. Just wait until you have used it for a year and then try another brand. There is no such thing as the best bulb.

And you wonder why no stores hold any decent books.
  9. My po4 is not zero yet, it is .046ppm. Been testing every day and once it gets to .008 will turn the rowaphos down or just run it a few hours a day. I did a doubt test on the salifert as i wanted to compare it to the deltec test kit, The salifert still has a very light colour so it does seem to test very low down, will do a test again and see how low it can test.

Big saving $40??, cost about $40 to drive to town. I am sure if you ordered 4 from Hollywood they will do a discount.
  11. Here are some colourful acros My Nitrate/Phosphates have finally dropped to almost zero. Have notice some improvements since my readings have dropped. It has taken some time to reduce the Nitrates. It’s been 1 month since using Vodka, and bacteria from bio digest, Test so far confirms that it does work however it can cause problems like zeovit as some weaker acros can get RTN. I am dosing vodka on a dosing pump ,was dosing 2ml a hour and have reduced to 1ml, Also starting using a small amount of rowaphos just to mop up any phosphates from feeding. So far so good. Using 14k bulbs from narva.

You can also buy the books at Hollywood fish farm. cost a bit more but you can get it today. The freight from marine depot is a rip off as they only ship fedex.
  13. Yea ,cant get any worse can it.

  16. As mentioned by others there are lots of reasons for acro colours. One thing I would try is to add some zeolite. Not too much as it can remove too much organics, or release too much iron. The zeolite will remove some organics matter which could be effect the colour of the corals. When I use zeolite my water goes crystal clean. NSW will also have lots of organics which can’t be tested. I also note that having zero phosphate/nitrate is not going to guarantee great acro colours as I have had my nitrate and phosphate levels on the high side and still have some great colours. Whilst your tank does needs 3 halides I doubt that the light has anything to do with it, as your acros are under the light anyway. Changing bulbs from 14k to 10k will improve some acros but I also doubt that is the problem as many people use 14k. Adding a queen skimmer is a waste of time as they don’t remove much, but I can see the benefit of getting a bigger skimmer. Get someone to retest the phostphate as test kits can go off.

AKA , zeolite and vodka dosing with instructions. I thought zeovit reduces nitrate/phostphate.

Its Barrys tank in South Auckland
  21. Some shots of a nice acro tank. Everything looks pretty good. Hard to believe you can get colours like this with nitrates above 25ppm and phosphates of .20ppm. And who said you can't keep gonioporas ??

What a classic, sounds like fnzas saltwater forum.
  23. The rock does show high nutrients. I notice that when my nutrients go up the rocks start to get a brown like colour or sort of dirty look.
