    pytoplankton

I beleive feeding corals helps. i still have goniopras, cataphyllias, and without feeding they would not survive, I alternate beween several foods. It is quite noticable that corals have improved since feeding.
  2. Bio digest will help to reduce waste in the tank, however you will have to check your water quality. what are your levels, nitrate, phostphate etc.

    Baby banggai

Babies at about 10 days old. They are growing well and have almost doubled in size over the week.
  4. Would not think that it is a good idea to have iodine and calcium combined. As you will use more calcium in a reef tank and if you have to keep adding the supplement you could overdo the iodine so it will fuel algae growth.
  5. I think 150mm will be more than enough; you only need about 20, clearance to remove skimmer cups.
  6. I like the fact that he does not have much rock. so back to the drawing board for me and i will have to pull out another 200kg.
  7. Berne Mohr has been using t5s for over 5 years; I spoke to him when they first came out. I kept my tank under t5s for almost a year and my acros did really well, however I did not like the fluro look as my tank looked sterile, also lide you get the glitter lines. With t5s you get good coverage of light over the corals vs halides which give more shadow areas.
  8. That is a awesome tank. Arguably one of the best TOTM ever featured. http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2005-07/totm/index.php
  9. Deltec have just made a new skimmer which will fit under tanks For a long time there had been a space in the range of Deltec skimmers for someone who wanted AP850 Performance but wanted to fit the unit within a standard cabinet. The AP701 produces a maximum level of air at 750 lts per hour but will be more efficient in most aquariums turned down to 600-650 lts using the tap. This is due to turbulence in the neck of the skimmer drawing foam back into the body. On a low nutrient SPS tank however it should be possible to use all of the air as the level of foam will normally be less. The general performance and suitability criteria of this model should be classed as the same as the AP851 You can also get the turbo skimmers which sit in the sump. If you want more details pm me as i dont want to turn this into a commercial .
  10. Why is that? Very common.
  11. Blue Stripe Clown Amphiprion chrysopterus
  12. can you build in a self cleaning probe. It is such a hassle to clean the probes every month. My ph currently reads 7.20, which is incorrect, so i will have to see if i can calibrate it some time. It would be great if you could add in a po4 and nitrate probe. but it cant be cheap otherwise everyone else would have added them in.
  13. lemon peels are not reef safe. but you can get away wiith them in a big reef tank,
  14. Canister filters are ok to run carbon /phosphate remover, but I would not use it as a filter as it will load up with dirt and cause nitrate and phosphate problems due to the dirt decomposing in the filter , thus feeding unwanted algae.
  15. That is what i have found, that is why most of my acros dont show polyp extention as they must be getting enought light.
  16. In terms of polyp extension I have found that acros for example show more polyp extension under 150w than acros under 400w. I could never work out why my acros never had any great polyp extension during the day. But since seeing tanks that run 150w halides I am sure that acros will show more extension under less light.
  17. low light for green motipora as i have tried dozens and found that the high light was killing them. all mine are doing well under the t5s
  18. i would not think so unless the cowfish was huge,

    Photos Please!

Mine monti is also a red/orange colour, started off pink but then changed to the red colour. acually the pink colour is how they come in. I prefer the red myself.

Well i have been at jansens and seen them sitting around for weeks. Not good business to have acros sitting around turning brown. Any acro i posted is available .'when i get a chance i will post some pics of acros that have browned out that were green and some purple.

Yes it does the same thing when i have only the fluros on, but is is not that intense like the photo, hopefully layton can get a pic up. The acro that i have had in are as good as what they are in the states, the problem is keeping the colours during the 3 week quarantine is a problem, The colours do come back with good lighting and water quality. Here are some pics of my acros with nitrates over 10ppm and Po4 of .30ppm. On the high side but too low is also bad news.
  23. reef

    Turquoise stag

Yes it is. as my staghorn does the same thing with fluro lighting.

    Turquoise stag

I doubt that is true, More like everyone wants them for free. Bali slimer is a Staghorn coral... Bali slimer
  25. reef

    Turquoise stag

stag (nobilis) always comes in, however the photo has been taken under blue fluro lights so it looks different.
