    Tank Upgrade Photos

Your tank is looking great, (you dont catch me saying that everyday) Looking nice and clean and heaps of coralline algae. need so close up shots.
  3. You made a statement to say that De bulbs were better and cheaper. so waiting to see how you back it up.
  4. What makes DE bulbs so good?? How much cheaper are the DE T5s bulbs compared to Sylvania?? That is landed cost after GST and Freight.
  5. Maybe the arcadia reflectors sold at LFS are not that expensive then. Hollywood fishfarm sells slyvania t5s bulbs at a good price.
  6. Not Cheap, Deltec phostphate test kit is a lab grade kit which is a rebadged Merck test kit. cost only about $120 but if you go to a lab supplier and ask for a merck test kit it will cost over $300 for the same test kit.

    SILICATES.

    Thats what my boyfriend says
  8. I think the refractometers are really worth the money, i have seen so many tanks having problems and it always comes down to the basics like salinity. So far almost all the hydrometers i have tested have been incorrect . Spending additional money to get a refractometer is really worth it and you wont regret it. Hydrometers just dont stack up.

Why?? It covers all the glass,

    SILICATES.

Silicate acid is not easy removed, silicate is . Best to get a good Ro/di then no problems. I had a big silicate problem as my di resin was old. when i changed the resin within 2 days i had no diatoms.

    UV sterilisers

Jetski also the coils are usually aluminium. aluminium coil is not be a problem with freshwater as only salt water reacts.

    Stream...

Been told by amateurs that they are like seios. Right ,,they don’t have a clue. These things pump a lot of water.

    UV sterilisers

I doubt it, UV kills bactaria etc, It does not remove organics,
  14. In terms of hair algae I had the same problems when using zeovit and products similar to zeovit. My hair algae went nuts in my sump. Not sure of the cause but I had very low PO4 and it was still growing, If you are over feeding the fish they will be producing more waste like ammonium and this is getting used by the hair algae. What are the colours of the acropora looking like since the hair algae is growing?? What type of skimmer are you using ? as to get good results when using zeovit you have to have a good skimmer so it can remove the waste fast enough. Got a friend, who is doing ammonium chloride to increase his nitrates as they are zero, The results have been surprising as the caulerpa algae is going nuts and is a very nice green and the coralline algae which was sort of faded red is a beautiful red colour, So I would say that the algaes are using the ammonium like fertiliser . Will try and use some this week to see the results on my tank as I need to increase my nitrates.
  15. Sounds like you need to do some homework.
  16. Ira wrote Streams are not designed to be used as return pumps so why would head capacity be a problem with streams when it is only use for water movement.
  17. If you get low iron glass then you should get the sides done otherwise not really worth it as the green will transfer to the front glass, Low iron glass does scratch easier than normal glass; also it is not as strong but will do for an aquarium '
  18. what do you call expensive?? i think they are about $32 for a 4ft reflector. A bit expensive but at least you dont spend two weeks trying to find it,
  19. Any LFS should sell arcadia t5 reflectors
  20. yes, get a plug converter or change the plug
  21. Can’t go wrong with the Deltec hang on, Cost more but works well and hangs well on a tank They are a bit noisy but you can do a few things to reduce the noise. The Deltec is much more compact and you cant see the pump like the aquamedic. All reviews on the Deltec say they are good. The aquamedic would be a nice budget skimmer. The Deltec pulls in much more air so it will skim far better. I am the Deltec agent so many might see my post as biased.
