    Overfeeding

I think maybe I've been overfeeding my fish...and that is why I've been having losses. When I did my water change today...lots of "stuff" came out! So, I've cut back. I'm right aren't I??? Overfeeding doesn't just make fat fishies but it can lead to an "unhealthy" tank, right???
  2. Why according to temperature?

  4. Fuddel...I just posted a question about carbon :-? :-?

  7. Hi, A few more questions so people can help: How long has tank been set up? (awhile since have the algae problem?) How often/how much water changes? What are the water parameters? I'm not familiar with that kind of filter but I'm sure others will be. Have you given it a good cleaning? Sorry about your losses

    Hi there, Im new.

Hi Wow...new and starting off with a marine, cool. All the scientists in the "salties" section will be of great help as Jude said. Okay, maybe there not scientists but when I read their posts I think they are  Take care & have fun, Caper

My water is clear. I am really getting frustrated as I don't know what I could be doing wrong  I would like to get a new filter eventually but not much to pick from here & I don't know when I can go to Halifax again to a "big" pet store. Might be getting laid off work so have to watch my money as well!!!!!!!

    Lost a few Guppies

Yes, I believe a temp change from 27 to 21 is quite a drop in one shot. Last winter I did add some warm water when filling my containers that I use. I have copper pipes as well. I emailed the company that makes the water conditioner I add and they said it makes the water safe, so I am trusting them :-? 8) Summer time, I just get the water ready at the very least a day ahead of water change.
  13. I don't have discus but from what I've read here I understand they require lots of water changes. However, those with more experience please correct me if I'm wrong, wouldn't it be wrong to be cleaning "everything" in the tank on a weekly basis? Wouldn't cleaning "everything" destroy the good bacteria as well????

Very, very nice fishy How big will he get?
  18. Can't get furan2 here...good luck Tsmarina, I sure hope Rex gets better soon.
  19. Some say it is....some say it is not. What are your opinions on this? Considering I've already lost one fish and maybe ready to loose another to what appears to be dropsy, I'd really like to know what you folks think? From what I've read so far, it seems that the real problem with other fish getting it is if a fish with it actually dies in the tank & fluid leaks out or other fish eat the carcass. If a fish has it, are there special procedures that need to be done to the tank???? Sorry if not making sense here, having a bad week & sick fishies aren't helping
  20. Jude, it's a hang on filter. I'm really, really, getting frustrated. Lost a neon on the weekend, no apparent reason that I could see anyway. And, (posted in disease section) I think I have another fish with dropsy. I don't understand what is happening. Water parameters are fine, although I can't test for nitrates. But, I thought with an established tank and water changes that shouldn't be a problem????
  21. Sorry I don't know about Axies...but I did have a goldfish go blind. Nothing at all to indicate what happend to him, but he seems to be coping well *knocks on wood*
  22. Not much available here in medication so I would use Melafix also since it does seem to be from the injury he sustained, perhaps.
  23. Very nice set up In the first pic you posted, what is the red guy peeking out of the ornament on the right side?
