  5. Beware Gimme, sounds like you're showing symptoms of MTS   How are things going? I liked platties, don't have any right now though I too agree with how you're feeding. That was my biggest fear about getting an aquarium, I was scared that I'd either starve or stuff the fishies...now I'm ok with that, since I found out about all the other stuff to be scared about...  just kidding, well kind of, I mean there certainly is alot more to think about than just feeding 8) Post pics sometime! 6. Oh my gosh...oh my gosh...don't tell me...finally something here that I can get and you folks can't    Sorry, couldn't resist They used to sell pH test kit that had bottles. Just recently they started selling strips for testing the pH. I bought some but haven't used them as yet...will on the weekend though. Haven't tested pH in ages. Used to do it regularly but it always stayed the same all the time. Since you wise fishy people taught me...consitent better than up & down Caper
  7. Puddles...if a person can afford it and has the space...they should start with a bigger tank...just from all that I've read and my own experience though 8) Caper

    hi all

Hi & welcome :bounce: You'll get lots of help here...people are great! I'll never have a reef/salt tank unless I win the lottery so good luck with yours. You can also post in the "saltwater" forum. Post pics when you're up & running:) Caper
  9. Me either, but like I said, if you don't take them right away, chances they'll be gone. But I haven't bought many fish lately, trying to figure out where I can put my 55 gallon tank. The ones that have lived the longest are the tiger barbs, mind you I have lost some since I started getting them...but these guys are fairing much much better than the others I've had like neons, platties, guppies and a couple of other kinds.
  10. Not many where I live...as far as I know just small ones like garter snakes and such...have never seen one...AND DON'T WANT TO I'm also scared of frogs...but as long as I see them first and they can't get on me...I'm ok with them! But can't even look at pics of the other, other, other things *shivers just thinking about them* can't even stand the fake rubber ones! Caper
  11. Ah, didn't know where to post this, so if in wrong area I apologize. Anyway, the only place to buy fish here locally is a department store the only other pet store closed They always get their new fish in on Thursday and they are up for sale immediately, unless you see a tank or 2 that may have do not sell sign on them. If you see a fish that you like, more than likely you only have a day or 2 to get it, or it will be gone. Actually, come to think of it, when I was there yesterday, they still had a lot of fish...which is unusual. ANYWAY, my question is...how long before they should be selling the new fish...I was thinking a week but maybe that's pushing it????? Plus they always have some left over from previous purchases. HI ALL:)

Thanks I'm concerned about them eating. They (bought 2 more today, so have 3) are in a 10 gallon tank right now with 1 guppy (other 2 died) and will eventually be moved into a 20 gallon. From what I've read so far, just the left over flakes on the bottom is not sufficient???? Caper

  14. oh my gosh...I feel so confused...tropical, subtropical, coldwater   Okay...before summer came - transfered 3 goldfish from 10 gallon tank to 20 gallon tank - tank located in my livingroom (previously had thermostat set to 24) - began to lower the temp, only got to 22 when summer started (temp between 74 & 80 in summer) - tank still has 3 ottos in it Should I remove the heater???? Summer is all but over   But hopefully still weeks and weeks to go before having to turn heat on in apartment. With the ottos and goldies, would I be ok to leave the heater in and say lower it to 68??? Caper
  15. I know one time I had put a bigger filter on a tank (keep in mind I only have small tanks) and sure enough...fishies seemed to stay at one end. Put the old filter back on and they we're fine...obviously too much current (or whatever the right word is   ) My tiger barbs will do that too...but mostly when I walk into the room and ring the dinner bell Caper
  16. Ditto to what dimebag said re: turning off filter. You should never turn you're filter off, of course, unless cleaning  Yes, keep that in mind that anytime you add medication to your tank to remove the carbon. Not familiar with bettas but hope he/she gets back to "normal" real soon.
  17. nice video...he looks like he's enjoying!
