    How many ottos?

I can't find the post here...but I thought it was 1/5 gallons of water, is that right????? I have 2 in my 10 gallon (with my goldies) and they do an excellent job. In my 2 (29 gallons), I have 2 in each, but that was all I could get at the time. Really hard to get where I live
  3. Yes, that is a beautiful tank...but honestly, your tanks are the same...awesome!
  4. Ira, you said you have them in a community tank...what other fishies are with them?
  5. Absolutely awesome Can you build a stand for me...oh yah, darn...live to far away I LOVE the rocks...how do you keep them together????
  6. Mystic, don't the ones in the wild, I wouldn't have a clue as to what kind of puffer fish they are...but I thought seeing a program on TV, ages ago...that they did "puff" up as...maybe a protection thing, but I could be wrong it was years ago that I saw that.
  7. He really is cutie Ira...tell me, do they actually "puff" up?
  8. I just euthanized my guppy, I managed to get a good look at him tonight and his scales were definetely protruding. It was the worst, the worst thing I ever had to do. I had to do this before but the fish were in such bad shape they never even moved, but when I took him out he was I have to go pick something up at the vet tomorrow for my pussycat & am asking them if they have something because this was just awful. I sat in front of the tank & cried, cried while I was doing it, and am still crying He was one of my first guppies and he was beautiful and funny to watch, my dear little Slim will be missed.
  9. Thank you Do you have any suggestions on building a tank for a 4' tank?????? 8)

    HELP!!!

    :bounce: :bounce: CONGRATS :bounce: :bounce:
  12. I bought something one time...I tried it a couple of times, nothing happened...then I found out here that it's better not to use those things. Like you said Doug, from what I've learned here...as long as there's no "ups" and "downs"! So, I do nothing and my pH reads the same when I test it.
  13. Oh...well, I don't know anything about that...but I'm sure someone here can help you
  14. Oh so that's the gangnails...another lesson learned
  15. Not treated...how lucky you are ...and your fishies
  16. You are talking about a tank with no fishies, right? Alan is one the wise fishy people here I've learned that here that if your water has chlorine that if you sit it in a bucket for at least, I think it's 24 hours, the chlorine will dissapate (should I know that's not spelled right :-?. Here, where I live we have chlorine/chloarmine so I have to treat the water before I add to tank.

    HELP!!!

    That's great new 2fishy
  18. I tried to get a good pic...but...anyway, I don't know if you can see in the pic but around his dorsal fin, looks like the scales are protuding, could this be dropsy. I tried to get a good look at him and a better pic, but everytime I did he moved. This section was always a darker color. A) As I type this question, it is Friday 8:41 p.m. here: Poor guppy is not improving. He remains on the bottom 99% of the time and his breathing is really laboured. I still can't tell if all his scales are protruding or not. I was thinking of trying a salt bath, but I'm wondering if this itself would be too stressful because I believe he still has the engery "to run" if you know what I mean :-?
  19. OH MY , that is a possibility. But, are you kidding about the fading from the sun??? :-? :-? 8)
  20. Sorry, Krissie I know nothing about kribs Have you tried putting her in a breeding trap, just so she doesn't get sucked in by the filter??? I tried this with a sick platy once and he did come around, well kinda, he lived for a couple of weeks after removing him from the trap but the filter won in the end  So either what ever happened to him in the first place got him and then once the filter did, well, the rest is history, no more platy
  21. Thanks Caryl & Peter  No, I didn't remove the uneaten peas I thought I could leave them. I can't say for sure if there were any left when I changed the water. When I give them to my goldfish, I always "smosh" them up & I did the same here, but honestly I can't say for sure if I would have missed breaking one up Peter, what was happening started before the water change. Yes, our water contains chlorine & chloramine. I have copper pipes but I emailed the company that makes the, uh :-? stuff, that I add to the water for the chlorine/chloramine and asked them about the copper pipes and they claim it makes the water safe. The pH test kit only goes as high as 7.6. I do find it hard to tell the exact measurement, that is why I usually say between 7.4 & 7.6. But, it never varies, I might be a bit off with my judgement :-? I am at a loss as what to do. They're behavior is still the same
  22. Thanks Caryl A lot of the fishies you mentioned, I can't get here  Might be able to get them somewhere on the mainland, not sure. But, I'm in no hurry haven't even decided on a stand yet, so I'm still just trying to get some ideas on types of fishies and decor 8) I have the red eye tetras in with them, when I first had the barbs I noticed some fins of the tetras looking like they had been nipped. But, the tetras are all fine now
