  1. Filter in 20 gallon tank with goldies & ottos: I had to use my filter from the 55 gallon tank when I burnt out my other filter  . The intake sits right on the bottom, er, top of the gravel. Is this ok? I've tried moving the gravel away from the bottom but it always manages to go back there :-? I thought if I could somehow cut the tube it would be better. Why do you think? Caper
  2. Congrats ...post some pics? Caper
  3. Thanks Found a website with a short video on cleaning sand. The guy also ran his fingers through the sand, oh darn, I forget why...anyway, do you? Caper
  4. Thanks Ah...how do I know what kind of algae...I think someone posted a link here one time about different types of algae but can't find it. I removed one of the poly resin ornaments today...the one that had the "velvety" looking algae on it. Scrubbed under hot water. Just let it air dry...looked at it before and still green stuff on it that I could scrape a bit of with my finger nail. I'm wondering if I could boil a poly resin ornament & would that destroy any algae on it? Also, if you remove everything out of the tank...would there still be algae on the gravel...enough to feed the ottos till more grew??? I am going to remove everything tomorrow & give a good scrub (everything but the gravel!) oh, and of course the fishies  I did pick up a bag of algae discs to be on the safe side though. Caper

  11. I have three cory's in a small tank all by themselves...and still seem to favor the back of the tank! Ah, since I don't know how big your tank is...but if its big enough tiger barbs are good. Their an active fish, and I don't find them a "dirty" fish. But if you do put them in, think ahead, because you can't put other fishies (e.g. guppies) because they'll nip at their fins. Caper

  15. Sorry about your fish Lonewolf The other day I went looking at fishies in the department store. One of the tanks had a dead fish on the bottom and it looked like dropsy (swollen, pine cone). If indeed it was, does this mean the disease will stay in the tank??? Caper
  16. I'm not sure if this includes me, but just in case...sorry I didn't mean to offend, I didn't know what Massey was...and I was only asking because of what I read about them being threatened and I know that you folks have strict guidelines when it comes to keeping certain fishies, believe me I certainly didn't intend to "question" a project but only ask A question Caper
