Caper

My guppy is pretty much staying on the bottom & breathing heavily. I've checked my water & it is ok, plus I did a water change. But now, I'm scared I may have done this to him/her. For the first time yesterday, I put peas in their tank (I thought it could be a good thing ), not one of the fish seemed to eat them so I didn't put much in. Now, I'm wondering if my guppy could possibly have gotten a piece got in his throat :-? ? I've tried looking with a magnifying glass but I can't see anything. Any suggestions? The molly is doing alot of standing on his tail swimming. Any suggestions???

Thanks Sharn & Caryl How do you know how old a fish is :-? :-? Is there a rough estimate kinda thingy say by size??? One of the fantails has more orange on him than when I got him so I guess it's just a change like your's went through Caryl...OR ELSE...Beauty is stealing Sam's color :evil: :lol:

I know this is an old post, but I can't see some of the pics, is that why? I have a couple of questions on the first pic that Heather posted. Please forgive me, I'm a secretary NOT a carpenter in any way, shape, or form 8) and feel free to laugh :lol: :lol: , especially when I use the wrong terminology Here goes, the top of the stand: why is it you can have the top of the "frame" :-? extending over the posts that go down (*go down* very technical huh!) I would have thought they have to be "even" with the posts for strength? What are the metal thingies that are joining the wood????? AND, would the posts, er, how to put this, ah...ok...the wood that is "sitting" on the posts where they join, would that also be glued? nailed? screwed? in addition to the metal thingies??

I think :-? I have finally decided that my new 4' tank will become the home for my tiger barbs and red eye tetras! While I'm waiting to get it set up, I've been looking to see what else I can put in with these guys. As you all know I value your opions, so although I'm checking on the net, I would like to get your input. One kind I'd like to have is the bala shark, but I've read somewhere that you should have at least 2 of these guys, what's your opinions? What else would you suggest????

Thanks If I could I'd gladly fly you over, the only thing is, have to win the lottery MDF is plywood???? :oops: I stopped in at a Home Depot store the other day to see if I could get ideas and the guy said they could cut the wood for me. My best friend built the last one for me, with help from my other best friend (his wife) :-? and ME I've been trying to get some ideas by looking here and the net. I also want to go cheap but of course have a strong stand for my fishies! But, since I can't buy a stand here (unless, I can find somebody whose selling one) I'm thinking that building one would be the cheapest way to go. Plus, I want to do it or at least give it a try with some help.

Now it seems to be faded, I'd take a pic but left my camera in the my car & my kids have it :-? He is blind but other than that he seems to be fine, except for the faded coloring. The other 2 goldfish in with him, their colors are still ok. I only check the water occasionally now unless I think there's something wrong but I didn't check it now since the other goldies' colors are fine. Any suggestions as to why his color would be fading??????

What a stand, WOW! Great job, geesh I wish I lived closer I have a new 4' tank and trying to decide about a stand, hard to buy one here. Since you have experience, ah question please...a stand made with 2x4's are they strong enough???????

Thanks all Much relieved, they're all happy and swimming about. It was the first time I experienced, ah this situation :-? , so it was a bit scarey at first to see them all kinda just sittin on the bottom that something major had happened!

All ideas re: fish stand would be appreciated. I haven't taken the tank out of box yet so they did try to get the dimensions for me while in box :-? 4', approximate height 20", ah I think width was 13", 55 gallon (approx 208L). Maybe I should just get the fish to make their own stand, we have intelligent fish here in Canada :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:

At one point I did have styrofoam under a tank that was in 2 pieces, not exactly half, but anyway it was fine. What color gravel are you putting in?

As you know, I do not have real plants :oops: ; nonetheless, I do have my lights on timers, well I did until the summer hit and now I just turn them on/off for a period of time in the evening if it is cool. I was out tonight till about 11:30 p.m. and the lights weren't on all day. I was mortified when I first saw my guppies almost just sitting on the gravel. Thought somethings seriously gone wrong here, yah I know I panic ANYWAY, my question is would this be their "normal nightime" sleeping behaviour do you think????

If they don't want to go in the water do I still squish'em in???? What if they'd prefer my bathtub? Hmmmm....there's a thought, save me from having to get a stand :bounce: But then, I can't get a shower...oh my, so complicated!!!! :lol: :lol: Does anyone know of a website that I can go to get ideas on stands, not store bought but homemade????

It's good to get stuff out of your system...I think venting always helps...hopefully things will turn around real soon for the better that is I keep forgetting, what are GBA'S?

As far as I know, and from what I've read they are. I have 6 ottos!
