Just the tail fins are gone, hmmm. Is there anything else visibily wrong with the fish or than their tail fins missing? Was there any indication of anything wrong with them before you found the dead fishies, e.g. the tails were "rotting" away? Sorry for the losses! Caper

They just got these fishies in and they are beautiful. Of course, not much info so I just took a fast look on the net and I'm right, they are a platy? They didn't have them in with the other platy's and they looked bigger. Is it possible they were just older than the others or do they get bigger for this variety. Basically I guess I just want to know is it like all other platy's just a different color? Caper

My fishy didn't make it. Last night I noticed he was swimming mostly on the top. This morning he was dead He/she was one tough fishy, tried his/her best to make it Thanks for the help Caryl! Caper

Hi & welcome! You'll get lots of help here in trying to breed fishies. Many here have/are successful breeders. Personally I don't, nor do I want to, breed fish. Time, finances, and space are only a part of why I choose not to breed fish. It's is not something that I am interested in doing at all. Anyway, good luck with your breeding of fishies. Post a pic of your tank sometime. Approximtely how many liters/gallons does your tank hold? You said it's a foot long, what are the other dimensions? Take care & have fun, Caper

Thanks Caryl, did as you advised and didn't feed the fishies for 3 days. He/she seems to be doing well so far. That is funny, did the owner(s) do this because they had the fish for a long time and didn't want to loose him/her?? So does that mean the swim bladder itself was no longer working, is that the only reason a fish would swim that way?? Caper
