  9. Oh this is a toughy! I would hope and would like to think that people seeing animal/fish in captivity would give them a greater appreciation for something that they may not see otherwise and learn about. I've been to zoos and a marineland and loved and enjoyed every minute. Do I have a greater appreciation say for tigers, you bet, to see these amazing animals and then read how they are becoming extinct To actually see them in person, not just on TV or in a book or magazine, it just doesn't have the same affect. Unfortunately, all too often these poor creatures are not kept in the "best" circumstances for their species (e.g. orcas in small pools). I don't even pretend to know what these awesome creatures require but it would be great if they could be kept in "ideal" atmospheres that suits their needs. I certainly don't know the right answer here, if there is one. I often wondered why they couldn't breed the creatures in captivity that are becoming extinct and then release the offspring in the wild. To be able to build up the decreasing numbers would be awesome. Anyway, enough said! Caper

  11. One of mine does, but I have it open all the way. Caryl wrote: So aiming these towards the side of the tank cuts down on the "blast" to the fishies but still creates enough water movement??? I've never seen an external filter, can't even buy them here. OH wait now, we are supposed to be getting a Pets Unlimited pet store in December, yah! Caper

  14. Thanks Carlos Just tested all tanks so far the readings are all good, YAH! Approximately how long do you think it will take the filters to get the "established", shoot can't think of word  , good bacteria back??? I will keep testing for awhile yet. Do you think I should hit any kind of ammonia spike??? Opinions please Anyone? Caper
  15. Sorry Virgil I'm at a loss. Hopefully someone can shed some light. Although, I thought I have read before like Simian said some gouramis are prone to "illness" for lack of a better word. Keep up with the water changes and see if you can catch any of the other fish harassing him. Caper

  21. You said that the water seems fine, did you test? How many barbs do you have? Caper
  22. Thanks for the kind words It has been back on now for 10 days and so far everything is going well! I didn't test today as I had to go somewhere after work so I will do so tomorrow and if need be do a water change. As I said, would rather not get into the details of why power was out so long, not important. The important thing is that my fish, all but my one barb, survived! Caper
  23. How is the outward appearance, any signs of injury, etc.? Is he eating? Caper
