Considering how heavy rocks can be, how do you determine how much/many rocks your tank will safely hold??? How do you know if silicone is aquarium safe? Are you folks buying it in a pet store?? Thanks, Caper

NO Barrie, we need knowledgeable people here and you are one of them! How else will people like me learn???? It's true that how we write sometimes could be entirely interpreted differently if the word was spoken instead of written! I know even myself, I might write something in a way that looks like I'm having a panic attack (ok, maybe sometimes I am :oops: ) but sometimes it's just an expression in words as opposed to how I might actually "say" it. In my 29 gallon (when I find the measuring tape will post dimensions) I have 10 tiger barbs, 1 green barb, 1 albino barb, and 4 red eye tetras. The tank has a hang-on filter, Whisper 30-60. Weekly water changes, with occassional spread out to 2 weeks or more if I'm not home for some reason. But mostly weekly water changes. Would it be ok to add 2 more tetras? How many cory's? I hope to eventually be able to get 3 ottos for the tank but I'm having trouble getting them, but if I should would it still be ok to add the tetras and cory's?? Anyone? Caper

Huh??? When I first started, before I found this amazing site with helpful people, what I saw & read was that it was not a good practice to put bag in water with other fish, well, as I stated above! I wasn't looking to be treated like royalty at all! Geesh, I know that some amount of "whatever" is going into my tank, after all the fish did come out of their tank! I wasn't rude or disrepectful to the person, I explained why, and asked nicely. I'll admit when I asked "what are you doing" was a bit hasty but not in a nasty tone because I was surprised that he was doing it! But I did explain why, and I did thank him when he got the new bag. I tried to be really nice but was ticked off when I saw how his attitude changed!!! I've always floated the bag in my tank. Yes, I've seen where some use the bucket method, which I'd like to give a try. But, what I don't get is if you put them in a bucket, how do you keep the temp up??? :oops: Plus, there's only a minimal amount of water in the bag, so when if I were to put it in a bucket wouldn't it cool really fast??? It was my understanding that part of the reason you floated the bag was to get the temp of the bag close to/equal to the tank water. Caper

I'm posting here since it's titled "petshop rant", hope that's ok :oops: I bought my first 2 fish from the new pet store today. The person who waited on me was also the manager. I was standing there when all of a sudden he comes with the bag AND PROCEEDS to put it in the tank. I asked him what he was doing, well of course his answer was putting water in the bag. I proceeded to tell him that the bag now has their tank water on it and that I don't put water in my tank from any pet shop. He then said and I quote, "Well, how am I going to get the water in there!". Hit me over the head with a wet noodle , I said "Ah, a container"! He said he never heard of that before or it being done in "their" shops. I told him I have seen it done before and I have when I've been away and in other shops, heck even the department store uses containers! He was nice enough to empty the bag and get a new one and came over with a scoop (still had sticker on it, so I'm quesssing he just took it off a shelf!). I don't think he was too impressed but then neither was I!!! Caper

I agree sounds like it is flashing/scratching. Other than this behaviour, do you see anything "out of the ordinary" visible on the fish? What are your water parameters? Caper

OH MY GOSH did he ever do a number on himself!!!! It's a miracle he didn't break any bones. Hope he's all healed now??? I can understand why the worry about going away!!! My mother used to have an apartment in the basement of our house. One time she was really sick and not steady on her feet so I insisted she stay upstairs. I remember at one point I had to literally sit at the top of the stairs and block them so she wouldn't go down. I miss her so much but let me tell you she was very, very stubborn!!! I used to have to trick her to get her to go to the doctors or else she wouldn't go. But, I'd do it all again if I could have her back Caper

Well, I don't know if it is weird but anyway!!! Lots of times I would eat while sitting on my couch watching TV. Puffball would get up behind me and put his front paws on my shoulder waiting for a morsel of whatever. One day I thought, hmmm, I'll fix you and gave him piece of a yellow string bean (not canned...fresh ones from my sister's garden) not something I like to share :evil: mean me. ANYWAY, much to my surprise, dear Puffball loved them!!! Caper
