  1. looking nice ! would suggest getting another 5 tiger barbs - they are best in a shoal and a single one will soon start to destroy your fighters and guppy's tails. try to avoid having "one of this and one of that" where they fish are normally found in shoals or groups. some snails are good at cleanup and dont like plants. i'd also say it would be good to get one more female betta so the male does not harrass the one girl all the time when its time for breeding. but plant are great !
  2. and by proper glass cleaner make sure its aquarium friendly - buy from LFS in a smal spray bottle - greeny blue in colour and not expensive as lasts ages
  3. Ive heard that - in what quantities per litre ?
  4. I have a tropiquarium68 (fully integrated filtered with biolife55 internal filter) that i would like to use for breeding mollies. its planted and has a few ramshorns and trumpet snails in (hopefully as a clean up crew) and has some bogwood in too - im cycling it at present. Can someone tell me the best way to set this up and best water parameters etc to breed the mollies? Thanks.
  5. really alan ? but wont it affect water quality for the fishes ?
  6. When you have a planted tank with fish in how do you clean the gravel (esp if it has those nutrient pellets in it) ? Im worried that it will get all pooey !!!
  7. Or get something big enough to EAT the neons.
  8. Yeah thems the ones Shame not seen here Often they are Eutropielus Buffei rather than debauwi - as they look the same. They shoal nicely and are stunning in the right setting.
  9. Hi, has anyone seen or heard of these in NZ ?
  10. Just wondered which members on here are breeding and selling trops in chch. Thanks.

    Skimming

You could always try it and see if the resilts change - so long as you dont force too much down its tubes and bust its seems.

Why would you want to ? Im sure with the heaps of cash Deltec have invested in R&D they know what the optimum for their products is. Just stick to what the machine is made for and you will LOVE the results.
  14. how about asking your LFS for an algae covered rock from their tanks on loan if you are prepared to risk it.

    Pictus Cats

I used to have three in my community tank back in the UK (and they cost the NZ euivalent of $12.50 each, lol). They are probably one of my most favoured of all the cats, although i love syno's, oh and corydoras, yeh i guess whiptails too....... Hmm - guess i just love catfish
  16. HandS - how much are they up at your lfs for the hastatus ?
  17. I saw that too - but just assumed they were referring to the difference between hard and softwater (carbonate hardness) ?
  18. you have an RO/DI unit "mainly for your icemaker" ?
  19. When setting up an ideal community you need to give some thought to whether the fish would be together in the wild. Or at least from the same water conditions. Would i suggest investing in a good fish book first. There are some which give advice on setting up biotope aquaria. The end result is far more satisfactory for the fishkeeper and the fish. Good luck though. You have chosen some nice fish there - shame they are not compatible. As far as hastatus corys - i have not seen them in the 2 years i have been in NZ, but then i am down south ! Bon Chance.
  20. Well if anyone decides to do that to their tank and wants rid of the rock then let me know if its going cheap....
