  1. Ktttk - oh right, it looks very vivid in colour - thats why i was not sure
  2. Ktttk - what fish is the pic of on your posting ?
  3. Hi guys - thanks for that info Will try those places.
  4. Tui brand ? Is it intoxicating
  5.  Theres always a better deal to be got !!! LOL
  6. i guess its a matter of choice. having seen the affects of chlorinated water on fish when I was more of a novice I would prefer to use it in the presence of chlorine. Having said that - i tend to draw the water off 24 hours before its required when doing routine water changes. however, the situation in this thread is more exceptional as they are doing huge daily changes.
  7. Well its cheap enough, and given I get readings I think that its worth that small cost to cover myself (That is WHEN I have fish as the tank is empty at the moment, lol)
  8. How would you explain the chlorine reading I get then ? Im on the Port Hills so its possible I get a different supply to down in the city.
  9. If Im putting a large quantity of tap water straight into the tank, yes of course i do. why ?
  10. absolutely Ron - just wanted to bring that point out because at 30-50% daily changes, if the water was straight from the tap to the tank without ager it would cause chlorine issues ay
  11. Whats Bin Inn ?? Would there be one in CHCH or is it just a Southland thing ?
  12. I presume you are not including water ager added to the tap water prior to adding it to the tank ??
  13. Lol. The stuff I got was $15 for 40kg - even cheaper
  14. To answer the other part of your question; Ammonia is the most dangerous to your fish, followed by nitrite and then nitrate. You can export nitrate by water changes / planting etc but the ammonia and nitrite is an indication that the filter is not coping with the biolode at the moment. Feed sparingly until its fixed and then increase back to normal gradually (without starving the fish of course). Make sure your water has had water ager added to get rid of chlorine cos at that amount of change daily its likely to affect the fish. (IMHO)
  15. Great, looking forward to that
  16. Hi, how about sharing those pics with the thread ? Im sure more people, including me, would find it interesting and useful
  17. I personally prefer a tank with greater depth back to front, to give greater surface area, but in this instance with the small number of fish it wont post a problem Im sure. Also, each tank has to be taken in context of where it is placed and the preferences of the owner. Having said that, this has the potential to look very impressive, especially if the illusion of greater depth can be achieved. Im looking forward to seeing pics with the fish visible
  18. And VLOUME is a new word I invented to mean VOLUME
  19. Absolutely. It could be considerably less - you need to take all three dimensions into account to calculate vloume
  20. Hi DavidR Thanks for the reply. Im using a Biolife 55 wet/dry internal filter (as this is on a Tropiquarium 88 tank). Im also trying to get my Tunze comline filter running but hitting a brick wall with fitting the inlet tube. Take your point about not being enough water movement for the calcite to make a buffering difference. Better idea may be to put some in a filter bag at the back of the rocks (or get a fluidised filter maybe ?)
  21. Ignore my post about the recipe - had not read all the way down.
  22. What RECIPE is this ??
  23. EXACTLY - Why dont we get nice fish down here ? Actually, thats not fair, as I know that Organism gets some great stuff in, but it seems the stores up north are far more diverse. Sajica's are south American ??? Ive never heard of em before but they are lovely.
