Depends what you intend keeping, but i would have thought it more important (per se) in a smaller tank as the water volume is so much less and therefore quality more likely to swing quickly. Im no expert though - so dont take this opinion as gospel;

Hey Layton, this is a fair comment, but dont the pics of skimmate that Jetskiersteve has put on indicate that in this instance (even if there has been production compromise) the product still works extremely well ? I can't imagine expecting much more out of any other brand. I guess the only way to do it is to compare like with like. Now if the same set up had been reproduced with Deltec's equivalent to this one we may have seen twice as much skimmate or thicker, or whatever - that would be the true measure i suppose.
-
Hi Steve - what would you consider the Deltec equivalent skimmer to this one? Is the pump on this lower price similar model EXACTLY the same ? There are claims that Deltec 'modify' their pumps. If that is true, have these pumps been modified in the same way as the Deltecs? Do Deltec actually explain HOW they modify their pumps ? Or is it just another 'manufacturers claim' to make their product sound better ? Certainly any Deltec I have seen working has worked phenominally well and if money were no object for me i would have no qualms in buying one (had an AP850 in the past but never got to the stage of using it as i moved !), but I have to admit i am willing to subscribe to a lower cost alternative if the work it did was CLOSE to a more expensive branded one.
-
How do they modify them ? electrically or mechanically ?
-
Thanks for your comments - i see what you are getting at about territories etc. If it meant just having one i would prob not bother - may have to go with something else. Cheers guys

no THATS the colour i want in my tanks !!!

The same goes for customers, abusive and abrupt customers usually get nowhere - unfortunately, abusive customers are a hell of a lot more prolific than abusive sales staff.
-
I couldnt agree more - and as far as seeing things - you could still do so on the net - not the same as picking a fish out in person ultimately but correctly managed it would work.
-
It depends how "forthright" a person is - if it comes across as being rude its not appropriate in a service environment. And as far as being grumpy goes - it should stay at home and not be released on paying customers. Still, there are some people who dont mind that sort of thing. Each to their own. I personally expect more. Having said that, I have never been served by the person in question and the other staff have always proven helpful and friendly !
-
Hmm, being forthright and grumpy are two characteristics that wont earn a retailer respect and loyalty though are they ?

Poll on replying to aquarium forum threads
Aquatopia replied to CirolanidHunter's topic in Saltwater
Chim - what are the other ones ??? -
Why is it controversial ? Its a process that is detailed in many current books and documents on the subject and a reflection of one method that anemones reproduce.
-
slappers - dont bother trying to sort out the flow rate on that old donkey - just sell it to me for $100 and i will send you my seaclone in return free of charge - far more easy. :bounce:  :bounce:

I think thats the point Chim - i dont think the 3 of them were in conversation, but having been in that store, the place is usually pretty relaxed and hobbyists often tend to get together and chat among themselves about the hobby - sometimes with and sometimes without the involvement of the staff. And if i were a retailer and some of my regular customers were having a chat and it transpired that one had a fish to sell that the other one wanted i would overlook the fact because i would be happy in the knowledge that they keep coming back to me for $200 boxes of salt or $350 worth of fish here and there. I would be even less worried if i did not have the item that was being sold available. However, if that customer was in every week standing by the tanks blatantly selling in competition to me, then i would be pissed off. Its a matter of balance, and i would not consider the sale of a cheap old 6-line wrasse between two happy customers to be a threat to my profit and loss sheet.
-
depends if you refer to US or Imperial gallons - Imperial, you just multiply by 4.55 to get litres. Dont ask me about US gallons - i never did understand why they had to use a different value !!! (No offence to our American cousins, difference is good..... )
-
How much reef? will it cope with my 36x18x18 ?
-
TM's skimmer is awesome, but if i had the money, i'd still buy one of these - it just LOOKS the part aye !!!
-
Im not sure it would piss me off - its a fact of life isnt it? When people interested in the same thing get together at a location relevant to that interest, and an opportunity arises, they are likely to discuss things such as this. Chimera - are you saying you would not offer to sell a fish you were happy to release, whilst talking to someone about that subject just because you were in a place that sold the same thing? If you were in bunnings talking to a guy about lawnmowers and you had a nice one for sale, and you knew he might be interested in buying it, would you say nothing ?

Not sure who Tel is "hailing to" here - the plaintiff or the defendant, lol - but he is right - there are always different sides to a story. It depends who you believe. Either way, i think that to have left this topic pass without comment and then resurrect it from left field is a poor reflection on the party concerned. Personally there are a few observations i would make on this matter;- 1. Why does the response from the owner (through a third party) refer to staff members involved when joeblog has made no reference to them himself ? 2. Whatever "OFFICIAL" policies exist, any sensible proprieter should have enough commonsense to over-rule these (especially given that another customer was told that if they had a problem with a fish they could bring it back in earshot of joeblog - thus implying that such a rule was not always observed). 3. As "tanksman" says - Dont offer a discount if you begrudge doing so and intend to try and use it as a lever to wriggle out of offering good customer service. In my opinion the fact it was given is a likely reflection that joeblog has indeed spent a lot of money at this establishment as he claimed and seems to contradict the owners comments that this is not the case. Why would you give a discount to someone who you felt was disloyal to your establishment ?? 4. Im baffled that any retailer (especially one who refers to his 30 years of experience in the business so proudly) should try to factor into this matter, time spent with a customer. Thats EXACTLY the part of the equation that retailers hide behind when trying to justify the fact they charge so very much more than online retailers. Take that away and why exist ? Any retailer who is not happy to spend time with customers is long since due for moving on. 5. The final sarcastic comment "As for my expertise in the field – I concede to any self-proclaimed expert and will ponder on my 30 years in the business" is proof enough to me that this is an example of a person who has lost touch with modern retailing in the smug belief that just because they have been around for so long they must be right, and bugger the customer !!! Regardless of every aspect of this case that may or may not have been mentioned on either side, i believe this retailer has done themself a serious dis-favour by responding a)late and b)in such a fashion.

Lol - i heard those Wakiato girls were easy   Congrats Fay - lets hope she doesnt wait too long to let him get up to anything else ! Any pics of the happy couple in their new home together?

Knead-IT purchased from Bunnings, about $15 - malleable into both bits of rock to create a good join. Make sure you push it in to all the area you want to join to create a good "lock". It stinks until its cured (matter of hours, thats all) and isnt kind to your hands so best to wear latex gloves if you have them or wash hands well straight after. Its what most people are using to the best of my knowledge.

Thanks Roy - will check it out myself too
