Hi Supasi, I got 4 Red Rainbowfish - Glossoseps Incisus Wanted the larger ones but love the dwarf neons too. I understand they look great under blue light especially.

A fish should have done better than the journey home !! Take it back - its possible they stocked up in readiness for this event and consequently overloaded their filtration system.

Hi - Doch didnt get the pics, I posted them. If I recall correctly it was on a cichlid site and was a winner of an annual competition. I will see if I can find it on my favourites and post the URL if I do.

Hi, Anyone had any luck breeding Rainbowfish ?

Well first water that goes in gives of this brown scum, and then the water stays discoloured no matter how much i seem to swirl it around and Im only doing about 1kg of sand at a time.

Hi DavidR - well i did that on a smaller scale and it stayed dirty - do u have to repeat the washing over and over ?

Dont get me started on substrates, lol ! I believe seachem do a filter media that looks distinctly like small pumice pebbles, so you may well be right on the filtration aspect. Depending on what fish you have would it not be a bit harsh though ?

How the hell do you clean it though ?

What are the benefits of it ?

Hi Folks, This is the look I want to achieve (on a smaller scale). Can anyone tell me if I might find this sort of rock in the wild in the Canterbury region (and where), or else, somewhere I can buy it cheap !? I kind of like this look too, but not sure yet;- I have just bought some red rainbowfish (which i want as dither fish for a cichlid aquarium) so the aim is to have those, along with some smaller cichlids - preferably Tanganyikans. Your thoughts would all be most welcome. Cheers.

I nearly bought one of those Jewel Rio125's but ended up with 4 Red Rainbowfish instead, lol. 1/10 of the price.

Right, I went to Placemakers, bought the "White Sand" that is apparently supposed to be Silica Sand. Its so fine its like powder, and when you wash it, apart from being filthy and giving off a scum, you lose half the b****y sand. Have I got the right stuff? Are you just supposed to put it in the tank and let it settle ? Im not sure I like it.

Moorehouse Ave had about 5 on display when I got there this morning. Some git had just taken all the silver dollars though, lol. Managed to get 4 nice red rainbowfish though
