  1. Just wondering which cichlid sites people like/prefer and why ? Especially want to find sites with lots of pics of members tanks etc. Cheers
  2. lol, cheaper than tropheus and even cheaper than others
  3. that should not be difficult - they have other things listed - buy one of them
  4. The other reason I was told is that because they were being caught from the wild, local populations were becoming dessimated.
  5. Remember to do any rinsing using aquarium water and not tap water as you risk killing off a lot of your good bacteria otherwise.
  6. You can never over filter - ever ever ever, lol.
  7. Bindi in it for the money ? She's ten and a half years old for heavens sake ! How many ten year olds do you know who are "in it for the money" ? Sure every kid likes a bit of pocket money, but lets keep it in perspective. If anything it would be Terry who is in it for the money and using her kids to play on that (which makes here even worse in my opinion as it boils down to exploitation - both of a minor AND of the good nature I don't deny Steve had). Caryl - you have opened up a can of worms here - sorry we are all hijacking your post, maybe most of this thread should be moved to a new one ?
  8. a lot of the things he did were VERY stupid. given he had a family and young children, who are now without a father. selfless maybe, considerate to his family ? no. IMHO
  9. I disagree. We used to have this glass in the windows between classrooms and corridors in my school and they would have been a similar age to this piece of glass. I had a battle from the inside with another kid on the outside, opening and closing the window - i shut it a bit too hard and ended up putting my fist through the pane and requiring 22 stitches in my hand. the wire itself is pretty thin, so once you smash the glass and its in pieces, even though it will still be attached to the wire you will be able to get a screwdriver and then pliers in to cut the wire - cut a square out of the bottom just leaving the edges attached to the putty and then get the rest off with the chisel and hammer as i described.
  10. I dont think i mistook anything. But one thing this post has highlighted is that everyone has different opinions and thank heavens for that as we would all be very boring if we all thought the same way The cynic in me has to think that Terry Irwin has been advised to do a nice little PR exercise because the way it sounds that book portrays her is not the way some of the staff at Australia Zoo have done :-? Anyway, to each their own.
  11. why not just smash the glass out and use an old wood chisel and hammer to clean the inside of the frame up from the putty ?
  12. small isnt always cheap - miniturisation often costs :-? but the end result is often worth it.
  13. What a wonderful idea - keep us posted with pics along the way I would consider remaking the tank and replacing the panel thats broken. Make the tank in the modern way, place it inside the ally frame and then find a coloured filler suitable for use for this application to look like the putty ?
  14. Quite right too Caryl, Attenborough is good, but so is Nick Baker - and I like his down to earth delivery too. Its all very "honest" the way he does things and presents them. I think Attenborough has a tendency to come across as somewhat officious at times, Steve Irwin came across as way too OTT, and Jeff Corwin can just be downright stupid. Having said that, to have the knowledge or experience of any of them would be a great achievement in itself.
  15. I have bought a second hand light (bog standard single tube, aluminium case, perspex cover) and the tube cover is pretty munted. I would like to replace it but am wondering if the perspex the manufacturers use are specially treated to cope with heat (although its a flourescent tube they can still get a bit hot in an enclosed space). So does anyone know if this is the case ? I am thinking the easiest way to replace it would be to use glass ? Cheers
  16. cool - that would explain why its a polish forum - it looks an interesting site - wish i understood what they wrote ! lol - i love the pic u linked me to - lovely tropheus too.
  17. surveyor - do you speak Polish ? Thats a polish forum
  18. I would never take anything from a marine reserve, fear not.
  19. thanks for all the suggestions guys
  20. Damn fine idea, thanks livingart.
  21. Hi Spoon - can you do a pic of what it looks like in your tank ? If its too much of a pain to upload it PM me with your email and you can send it that way. Thanks
  22. from the bits ive seen and collected the motunau stuf is mostly holes that go all the way through - i like the way this stuff, when put together, will allow lots of little swim-throughs and caves for the fish.
