  1. Just to add a little more PJ The striatums were offered as well as lagos if she wanted a choice. Those fish are more tham rare IMO as there are several ppl with striatum and these are the only ones of the bitaeniatum that I've seen in NZ. Alan 104
  2. Tai ho there a minute PJ It was me talking last nite to LL who was bidding for those killies. The reason I said that was after asking a lot of questions. At no time did I say or infer that she was/is a hopeless aquarist, and I pointed this out to her. The reason behind me telling her that they would probably be dead within a week was from my own experience and also the results of a lot of first timers telling me the same thing. It is called jumpitis, you know? When you find the little fellow on the floor. These fish were too valuable for this to happen to, and that was the reason that I offered to give her some fish for them. But I see now that they have been taken of the board. NO!! I didn't get them. But I do hope that what I wrote on the replies was the reason that they were withdrawn and that they will be bred and you'll see more of them in the future. I'm pretty sure this is the reason they were withdrawn. The NZKA is a friendly place, as long as you aren't me, and the rarity of this fish was the sole reason I chatted like that with LL last nite. To have a new species turn up in NZ like that demands that action be taken to try and get them established here. She didn't seem upset last night, and if she does on reflection, then I'm sorry. But it is for the best I think. Alan 104
  3. Have the Martians landed again Bill??? Alan 104
  4. 2fishy has/had some in the LFS where he is. I have bred them and have also shown them. The judge had never seen them before and said that due to them not showing and just hiding in the back of the bare tank that the "paradise fish" were not given high marks. So you know what they are similar too, and the colour banding. I was very disappointed with the lack of knowledge of the judge/judges and it was also prolly the first time they had been shown in NZ. The pair were kept in a very heavily planted tank and I only found out that I had babies when showing the adults to a friend. Easy to keep and I was very tempted to get them when I last saw them. I am surprising myself and also the wife, with the ability to come from the shops now without a bag or two or three of fish. Alan 104
  5. Now the pic is up, they are IMHO ramshorn snail eggs. Alan 104
  6. Without seeing the pic I'd say they were the ramshorn snails. Alan 104

    My New 4Ft

DJay, am I correct in assuming your repair was done by putting the patches on the outside of the tank?? If so you could be in for a big problem. Called "leaky tank syndrome" If the water can find a way into the crack, it will follow it down to the outer edge and then the ominious drip, drip, drip. To repair that, all you had to do was to remove the coving bead down to the base. Put a bead of glue aroung the perimeter of the patch and also on the base of the tank where the patch will fit, then just to be more security conscious, a bead down the crack. Apply the patch, and squeeze ot as much air as possible from between the patch and tank. Finish the edges of the patch of with a wet finger swipe. Leave 48 hours then refill. Alan 104

    CORYS

There are albinos in both the paleatus (peppered) and aeneus (bronze) corys. IMO the pepered are a slimmer fish, but unless you have a group of them, then you aren't going to be able to distinguish the difference. This makes it difficult to tell apart with no colours to aid you. So you coud be trying, or thinking of mating, two different types of corydoras. Alan 104
  10. That's correct Luke. But the fish availability can change without notice. I think I got this last Wed. or Thurs. Alan 104
  11. Never heard of Fresh Water seahorses. Any info sources on them?? Alan 104
  12. Sorry Alan, you'll have to do what I did. Open two boxes. One showing the above list, the other, the Google(that's what I used) and copy and paste and search for each one. Only wish I could say which ones do you want. WE WANT A QUARANTINE STATION!!!! Alan 104 ps. if you know of one that can help, please let me know. Al

    skinny platys

My thoughts too. Make sure you wash your hands and arms if working in that tank, and don't let that water get in contact with any cuts or abrasions on you, humans can contract fish TB, and it is VERY hard to get rid of. Alan 104

    BristleNoses

I saw a huge male years ago in an Ellerslie aquarists tank. 150mm and everthing shifted when he came out to eat. He even had a track worn from his hideaway to the feeding station. Alan 104

Try where they make duvets. The inners of old duvets are perfect. Alan 104
  17. Yes, your pH is on the acid side and is dissolving the calcium that forms the shells. Raise your pH to above 7. Alan 104
  18. Yep, keep in a hospital tank, keep temp. to what it used to, don't have the aeration too strong so as to stress the fish by making it have to swim the current, and I don't see why melafix can't be used as well. When you apply to the affected areas, try not to get the medications into.the gills. Keep the lighting down, and make sure that you have no carbon in your filter as this will stip out the meds. Alan 104
  19. PM me your email details and I can get back to you FD Alan
  20. Shifted it for you Kookie. Alan 104
  21. Have you tried a bent pin, cotton and dough?? It works, makes a small hole in the lip which heals, just don't strike it like you would a game fish though. I used this technique when I was a kid, and it really does work. Alan 104
  22. Carry on enjoying your tank as it is Sha. Those 'beams' are strengthening pieces, and therefore spread the stress on the base. I have seen many tank setups with just the outside edge supported, and as long as the 'rubber stuff' has not perished that should be fine. That is taking the place of any polystyrene that you may have needed to place under the tank. To conserve heat loss, you could cut pieces of poly and stick it in place with blu tak, and if the worst should come to the worst, only the water will come out of the tank, but saying that, if it was going to happen, it would have by now. Alan 104
  23. This is a list I came across from another forum. So something good may come out of the trip to Auk after all. Had a chat with PhilCollis on the Friday. Went alone so I could have a one on one. 25. That is correct, your tank water height will be the bottom of your horizontal part of your "T" joiner if there is a failure. Alan 104
