Why buy liqui-fry, when an emulsion of cooked egg yolk is sufficient for the egg layers, then bbs. For the live bearers, use finely ground up flake from birth. Always have a few snails in the tank with the babies, they help stop the pollution, which you should combat anyway, with water changes.

make sure it is "straight" peat,and doesn't have any fertilizer in it.

andyman98, What do you call a "good" price? The latest imports that came in cost about $53 a pair. I got a pair of amieti, my mate got a pair of gold gardneri, and I also got a single male australe, ($23.oo) to breed back with my females, to improve the local bloodline. Also 'out there', are the annulatus that sell for about $6.70 each, I haven't tracked any of them down yet. LOL Then there are the panchax, red-throats, N. guntheri, A. lineatus, and others I can't recall at the moment. Most of these you can pick up for $11 each, but if you can track down the local breeders, you'll find them about half that. BUT If you join the NZKA, at a cost of only $10 per family, plus another $5 if you aren't affiliated to the FNZAS. You may find some 'breeders' who have a surplus of fish and then you just MAY get a "Good" price. Have you had any experience at keeping killies? ZAPPP I once had a bright idea of killing snails in a tank. Put one electrode south, one north, and turned on the power. It was suposed to be 12 volts, I reaconed that if 12 would kill'em 240 would be that much better. Worked well, but not sure if it was the current or the vertigris that killed the snails, ( is that what you call copper as it oxidises, green stuff). It also killed my synodontus. The polystyrene under a tank does nothing to level the tank to the base. All it does is stop high points like grit or screw heads from cracking the tank bottom and if there is a difference in the broken tank base that you mentioned in your earlier post. It MUST level that off, that was what I meant. It is a lot more difficult put a new bottom on the inside of a tank, especially if there is already internal bracing. Agreed, BUT it can be done The only way to effect a long-term cure is to replace the bottom glass outright or use a full-size patch on the bottom That is what I meant also. Unless it is a small corner crack, then a small patch can be used. The glue peels off because the surface wasn't prepared properly. A clean surface has no problems. Lets face it, if there were problems then no tank would hold together for any length of time. Why risk it????????? I'm still learning Warren.

In time the glue just peels off of the base glass The only ones that I've had probs with have been when I put the patch on the bottom, outside. :oops: I learned from my wicked ways. :evil: Alan

I'm not sure, BUT, I think the catfish you were after, are illegal to keep, sell or give away, breed, put into any open river, lake or pond, or aything else, that could upset the biodiversity of NZ. If you catch them, you cannot release them back to their environment. But ya can kill and eat 'em. Alan

Did I read that right??????????? You put the repair glass on the OUTSIDE of the bottom. If so you have boobood The water can still leak out the crack, follow to the outside of the tank, and drain it. YOU MUST PUT THE GLASS ON THE WATER SIDE OF THE CRACK To fix it, cut a big enuff piece of glass to cover all the crack, clean the silicon from the inside beads, use "ACIDIC" cure glue, put a run over the crack, and where the edges of the repair glass will be. Place patch, and do the edges and finish to the side of the tank. Not the prettiest, but a run of black tape along the outside will diguise the appearance. The tank base will now need a bomb to crack it. Alan

Make sure your tank is well covered or you wont have your killies What sort are they, breed? species? Some are okies in a community tank, depends what fish are in the com. tank. But killiphiles prefer single species tanks for breeding purposes, the females of similar species are almost unidentifiable from their other types, so that stops them from being hybridized having them single tanked.
