  1. Harry, just make sure the wool is acrylic Ordinary wool will rot. If you wish to make a sinking mop, replace the polystyrene float by lead. Alan
  2. Meggy, how deep is their water? If you drop it to 150mm, the daddy doesn't have so much work to do, the babies can get back to the top, and you have a bigger area of humid air, that is vital for the babies. G'luck Alan
  3. Ira, don't do your bbs until the babies have been wrigglers for about 4 days. They will stay on the bottom for that time at least. Only feed them when they are free swimming. If thet are in a x community tank, they will prolly get by with out being fed bbs at any rate. Goodluck Alan
  4. There is a whiteworm breeder in Rotorua that sells them by the icecreme container for $25. There are absolutely heaps in it for that price. I know. I had them in my caravan, it got too warm and they took off, all over the van. Alan
  5. He past on to the big aquarium in the sky Robbo. A while back now. Alan

    Plant ID?

Salvinia my friend. Don't get caught with that. It's a classified weed I've seen it on the Western Springs lake, north to south, and east to west. Looked just like a lawn. Excellent for goldfish ponds tho. Used to be on most ponds in the 50's Alan

  8. Hey Robbo, why not join the NZKA. Andrew will fill you in on all the vitals. Join the "Real-Fish-Breeders" Sometimes you can get lucky and get the fish at 25% of what the shop charges. Alan
  9. Bit of a misnomer isn't it?? Never seen or heard of freshwater SEAhorses Let us know if you get any info on them. Can you check with Jansen's for their taxonomical name? They should be able to get it from their wholesaler, in fact, the wholesaler HAS to have it, to import them Alan

IMHO the Goldfish Bowl is the only one worth stopping the car for. Personality and friendliness of the owner/staff, and selection of the stock. These are some of the reasons I stop for anyway Alan

    seahorse breeding

Greg Leveridge from Taurange breeds H. Kudas. He use to supply to several shops in Auckland. But after sending some to the States, he found he couldn't supply both markets, so opted for the more lucrative. Guess that wasn't NZ He is now shipping regularly to the States and has also broken into the Canuck territory. Last time I spoke with him, and after several thousand exports, he has had NO "doa's" reported back to him. So the method that he has developed for sending them, has also been a success. Warning. Don't go near him on an export day He had only just finished his new breeding facility, then was offered a price he couldn't refuse for his house, so has moved to a farmlet up by Bethlehem (BoP). As far as I know he is the only one breeding "Tropical" horses in NZ. There are others doing local cold ones, H. abdominalis. IF you were able to get them, the tropicals, they would cost $60 bucks each if I remember correctly Alan
  15. Her hose temp dropped to 15 Alan
  16. That is the normal thing to do dennis. Then get them use to your conditions. Take some sort of equipment to test the parameters of the water. ChrisL, What do you mean by "if they are legal"? Of course they are legal. Alan
  17. Check out the Molly-hunt that is coming up soon across the other side of your puddle at Turangi, at least you don't have to pay for your fish, and you can have fun too. Alan
  18. OS, have you got that monster tied back to the wall in case of earthquakes? When they get going, they really go, so you would need some good ties. In our 87' quake, a waterbed took off, and went thru to the next room, thru the wall. My 6'er started swaying, that was enough for me and as soon as the quake finished I removed it. It was just TOO dangerous. Alan
  19. How many shops are in Taupo, Mothertrout? There used to be one down the front, a long skinny one, and the other I knew there, was a small one up an alley. Are they still there? Are there any more? Alan
  20. Ash? can you please let me know, in very slow method, how you put those photos on there. I was going to do the same, (but hit head on forehead DUH) I didn't know how. PM me or on the board, what ever, although I'm sure I'm not the only one that doesn't know how.
  21. Males !!! Unexciting !!! Phuff 8)
  22. That's the joy of being a fish-breeder. With experiance you'll be able to tell from the shape of her, and try to get her out about a week before she's due. The pregnancy length depends on her conditions, prolly 4 to 6 weeks, maybe more. As for the babies; when the can't fit into the mouths of their tank mates. Make sure you have a lot of small leaved plants, so they can be a little more secure. Yeah. More tanks. But if you are anything like your nic, you'll have them all ready. LOL
  23. Best to put a fish like that into another 'maternity' tank. The B-nets are just that. Too small and can make the fish using them, abort.
  24. You don't add HOT water to yeast, otherwise you will kill it. Yeast is a live culture it must be only lukewarm water.
