I am having a problem with my new hatchlings. They are hatching out as tho they are early, and behave like a cichlid, wriggler for five days. The hatch time is the correct time , it's just this wriggler stage they go through. After that, they are up and racing ready to go. I'm not doing anything different from when they were hatching normally, other than my male is one of those new imports. Any ideas. Alan

Ira, is it possible to get the eggs away from the parents, say, give them something removable, and remove their fav spawning possi if they have one. Set the eggs up in similar water parameters, with meth. blue and see if the eggs show signs that they are fertile. This is one way to prove if one of them is a male. Don't need to save any babies unless you want to though. Alan

I use a blade from a "bic" disposable. They are thinner than a craft blade, and less likely to get stuck. I use a piece of wood to push it along, as being thin, even the blunt side can cut. I also use a little leverage as soon as possible as the cut is made, this helps get the strain off the blade. Remove the inside bead first, this will mean you have less glue holding the joints. Therefore less to cut. You can use a piece of scrap glass for this, as well as cleaning up the flats on the sheets that have been removed. The most vital part to clean is/are the edges that have had glue on them. Go fo all of the above posts, there are good points in all of them. Not sure about the anti-radiation suit tho. Alan

Caryl, not too sure about your statement about willow. As a breeding medium, killiphiles often use willow root. I would think if there were any toxins in it the would be more concentrated in the roots than the tinber. Also rats, rabbits,chinchillas, all love to munch out on the willow branches. If you are starting from scatch, you main things that push the price of keeping them up is heating and lighting. I have just finished a fishshed. For the windows, I double glazed them, the walls have at least 50mm of polystyrene insulatin as well as the roof. The main heating source is the concrete floor. As I poured it, I put in PVC piping, through which water, heated by a solar is pumped. This lasts as a heat resivoir thru the hours of darkness, and as backup I have a thermostatically controled fan heater. Beware Without these your power bill can soar over $300 very easily in the summer. In "special tanks", can have a heater for each of them. Alan
