  2. They live in a bloody big swamp. in an area that is liable to erupt at any time soon Years ago the locals used to scald their pigs in the hot-spring, and cook their food as well. It has cooled down considerably now. So unless we have pole houses and sampans, I don't see these getting built out. Although the swordtail population is another story

  6. Frans, from the Living Waters, Tauranga, says to propogate this type of plant, just bend the producing branch back down into the water. Experience will tell you when to slide them of the main stem, using your finger. Then plant them in a growing mix until big enough to add to your tank/tanks.

    Red hook Pacu

Try this for a picture and some information. This was the fish I was told I was getting when I had the Pacus hoisted onto me. http://freshaquarium.about.com/library/ ... fw0016.htm

    Red hook Pacu

Don't go near the Pacus. In MHO, they are a fish that should not, due to their size be on the market. I should know, ask Warren how big they get, and I have seven of them. If it is the proper Red-hook myttenus (spp) go for it. There aren't many around and they command a high price. Living Waters of Tauranga, have them in at the moment, but I don't think the ones he has there are for sale. I think they will go a bit over 150mm.

    Red Badis

Hey Rob! That's only $404. :-? For a well paid lecturer like you, that should be no probs. Chat Frans up, and I'm sure he'd give you a discount at that price. Then you'd be able to buy some of those Badis. By the way, he was guarantteeing (spp) a pair

    Red Badis

Hi Rob and Bruce, Rose got me another badis on Sunday, so that's three. Frans may have 4 left Rob, give him a ring first tho. Oh by the way. Make sure your cheque book is loaded. You or Derek H would, I'm sure, be interested in some pleco types he has there. But they are VERY expensive $202 each Browny colour with diagonal yellow lines. AND he has a pair there. Also some other very interesting similar type species. Must be similar, cause the price is
  17. Anyone done these little jewels? I would appreciate anything you can give me on them. Apparently the hard name is something like Badis burmanacanensis. Why do I ask? I hope to add this to my scalp belt, just got a trio this weekend. See the killie forum. TIA

    NEW KILLIES

Well Rose got back from Tauranga with a big smile on her face, and announced that Frans had sold out of the Gardneri. So I'm not the proud owner of that species, and will have to rely on a swap arrangement with Erling. From what Ihave seen. I think they are Aphyosemeion gardneri nigerianum (near enuff spp) Frans has sold out of them, shame we didn't have an info sheet advertising us, and how to care, and breed them. He's hoping to get in more of them later this week. Keep in touch with him Andrew, and let me know how you get on. Goodluck. You're welcome to call in on the B.o.P part of the NZKA when you are up, if you have time.

    NEW KILLIES

A new shipment of killies have just landed at Frans', Livingwaters, at Palmers, Tauranga. New Australe bloodline for our breeders. Aphyosemion ameitei, a beautiful rarity, once upon-a-time, seen and bred in NZ. I believe these are the only ones in NZ at the moment. Fundulupanchax gardneri, a spetacular fish, or should I say specie. Haven't seen this colour type in NZ before. Will have to do some research and see if I/we can place it. The cost, do you really want to know? Well they were not the cheapest killies I have bought. I bought ONE male australe, for new bloodline to put over the ones I have at the moment, $28. Yep! OUCH!! I also got a pair of ameitei, $26.50 each, that totals $53 for the pair. I've NEVER paid this for killies, and also most other fish mind you, but if ya want them, you pay for them. Erling bought a pair of the gardneri, haven't spoken to him yet, but hope to be able to do some wife swapping, umm, fish swapping. Then we will have these in at least two different places at the same time for safeties sake, until we can get into the NZKA with the expected babies. I also picked up a pair (I hope) of "Red Badis", $30 a pair. HE HE HE! Rose is away, and I've just blown $100 on 5 fish. Who said I was giving up
  20. Bikie, if you put that female into a tank on her own after spawning. Why did you put her into the trap at all after you had been told that it is detrimental to guppies, and others I personally can find no useful use for breeding with those traps. Al
  21. Thanks for the excellent weekend Caryl. You are a terrific organiser with an excellent team. I don't think there were any disappointed visitors. By the way, thanks for picking up the magazine editors reins, looking forward to your indomitable style of the booklet. Al
  22. Boycott them in the LFS then they wont pollute our country with such disgraces of human stuffing around.
  23. If I remember correctly, there was an excellent vet that dealt with fish in Palmerston North. Correct me if I'm wrong tho, I think his name was David Dowde, and he was used by some of the hobbyist there.
  24. Hi Andrew, I heard you had these when I was down at Napier, but you had shot thru before I could chat to you about them. Put my name on the list please
