  4. beginning of march 2 weeks ago in march around august now around may (before zeovit and zeo ammino acids) now, and i believed that there was enough space between them.
  5. still lots of iron and still great coral life in hawaii. what's the % in zeolites? or bali black sand?

  8. the first article is very interesting. at the it say's 1998. is that the year the article was written? thats how i used to run my tank/s then. i never believed much in water changes just to lazy and / or in the believe that water changes were not neccessary (the lazy part hasn't changed). i just kept adding additives to the tank. everything seemed ok. but i didn't have any or almost no SPS then and if they didn't to to well either. when i did do a water change then i could see within a very short time a growth spurt on most corals. nowadays i don't believe in adding trace elements to the tank. not because they don't work but i can't see them being used up in the exact amounts as being added, so one must assume (not the best word) that over a longer period certain trace will reach very high amounts without a water change and even if a water change is done then those will only be dilluted in small amounts in the same ratio as explained in the article.
  9. very true. wasp how much is an airline ticket return to CHCH? will start a collection fund. sales from the video footage will make us rich.

they are none of the above really! they became just slaves of the hobby (constant water test, more light, more flow, more skimming, more tunzes (or seio for the poor ), more and bigger calciun reactors, even more light and those new bulbs (hang on i am getting some too :bounce: ). the abyss is sucking them (us) in!
  11. ACCURACIES Temperature 1C Salinity 2ppt Specific gravity 0.002 S.G not that great in accuracy for the price!
  12. very nice colour and growth wasp. must be all that metal in your water. will have to come over soon with a pair of pliers just in case you can't find yours.
  13. it ate your xenia and you removed it?
  14. if you like a couple pieces let me know! the sting isn't to bad, you will get used to it. my bali fire anemone is the real stinger. picked it up once and touched my upper arm with tha hand held the anemone. ouchh had blisters that lsated a few days (big and watery) and scars for quite a few weeks and i am not a skin sensitive guy when it comes to coral stings.
  15. does any of you have the blue coral Heliopora coerulea? if so how does it grow in your tanks? i am asking this question because this coral is a bit unique in the fact that it strips water of available iron to form its very unique skelleton and colour. mine grows well but the sotft bubble tips disintegrate on a regular bases. is this common in other tanks? now i use zeovit which suppose to release iron into my water as some people state why is it that the only coral that actively uses iron to form its skelleton doesn't explode in growth like most others corals? the disintergation of the tips only happens every 8 months or so and doesn't seem to be in any relation to water changes, zeolite changes or light replacements. this phenomenon is also mentioned in The Modern Reef Aquarium by Svein & Fossa, but again with no explanation.
  16. maybe but when i look at how much stuff i sell in a month and how much i spend on salt, i have got money left over in my pocket (well not for long until the wife finds it that is :-? )
  17. true. and this comming from me who didn't do water changes for up to 6 months. but i used a hell of an amount of extra additves which costed a small fortune. doing a weekly water changes actually works out cheaper plus SPS seem to grow a lot better. i did notice the growth spurt within a very short time after starting that horrible z....t. dillution is the solution to pollution. (sorry not from me but very true)
  18. a politician in the making! no not you james. 8)
  19. wanna buy lots of SPS coral frags and colonies. seems i grow quite a few of them lately. must be all those water changes with no other supplements except zeo. and mainly under 150 watters too. bummer that zeo stuff must be real crap if my corals grow like weed. damit how i hate weed.
  20. why don't you ask the coral? i am sure it will tell if you ask nicely. agree.
  21. because unhappy corals don't seem to open up. like my leather in a SPS tank he just doesn't like it. Lps don't open when the current is to strong they don't really like it! leathers don't open if there isn't enough current or just melt away if its really bad!
  22. just watch the door handle slappers!
  23. you just a fish nerd, that what my wife calls us. :-? power to the fish nerds. 8)
