  1. man you made my day, can't stop the tears running down my cheeks. i always thought that the wind was to strong to aim a bow at a target in the wellington area?
  2. what kind of mussels? green lip? sorry fay for tanking the p..s. all dive centre should require a full medical before you are allowed to start your course. if they don't go somewhere else!!!i have met people with asthma the doctor who signed them fit for diving should be hang and quartered.
  3. does that mean you lot passed the bombay's actually grow corals too. bum i never stop learning. what have you got? :bounce:
  4. then do and stop farting around with some other arguement about something, somebody or what ever you can find to change the subject. come on we haven't seen much that comes out of CHCH (sorry except joeblog) and with that even you would have to agree!
  5. Still haven't posted any pic's either? Why not?
  6. do your course first before buying lots of gear. you may hate diving and become scared / paranoid under water. i had students who spat their regulator out and that at 12 meters due to panic!! its also a good idea to do the course in NZ waters. you can dive here you can dive almost everywhere! also if you plan on a holiday to go diving and only do a couple dives a year (5-10) you more often better of renting your equipement. some dive shops especially before christmas offer quite a few deals (combo's that include 1st, 2nd stage, bcd and octopus). so no impulse buying (but you as reefer should be able to resist that anyway 8) ) good luck
  7. what other fish have you got with them? because when i first added my CB he actively searched for small aiptaisa but left all large one alone.
  8. don't know, but i guess that my copperband, after murdering all the wee ones started on the mama's & the papa's. unless my regal angel is the culprit. just never saw any of them picking on the aiptasia. :-?
  9. no they taste awful even with lots of tomato sauce and garlic (just can't see how one could eat jellyfish, but they do in parts of asia). no the reason i keep them is so i can sell them to newcomers as a baby LTA or a new type of xenia. (just kidding hazymranch) BTW even all my nice really big ones are gone now, lucky that i have a small colony in the garage thats mutipies nicely.
  10. its called silicates and diatoms. not a bad food source for some living things. 8)
  11. does it occassionly become loose and drift to the surface? looks like blue green algae with those air bubbles.
  12. "do what i say and not what i do" comes to mind. i rather listen to someone who say's do as i do because i can show results!! and not to someone that tells me a method i follow blindly. also one should really know what a UV unit does before starting to use one!! how bad is it on the fauna? why was it so popular in the early days when nobody really knew what to do (includes myself) and then abandoned it for other "better" methods? what if it mutates life forms? just had some little flys invading my work place in the hundreds (look like little midgets) used Raid kill fast on them and NONE of them died. so one should be sure what it does before using.
  13. i too use red sea (have magnesium chips in my CR due to the low levels in the salt mix). i think the levels would be OK if we all used tapwater but who wants to? don't know why the manufacturers don't increase the levels for RO/DI water, can't cost much more to do and the once who did would have the "cutting edge" over other makersin the market.
  14. much better. do you use a CR? if not leave it alone for a while and your calcium will drop to normal levels.
  15. check your results! 500+ calcium and 60 KH is not possible (well not in your tank, but it comes out from your CR in drips at that rate). so check again.
  16. if anyone wants some pm me. iam chucking it out the window at the moment. it just grows to fast and everywhere. becomes a real problem. :-?
  17. "Houston we have lift off" :bounce: like the safety wireing. what bulbs are you running?
  18. i could have sworn that it was reef's tank! so if this is your tank ira then please don't mind me asking who's pic's you posted in your name on this site? :bounce: very much agree, as lots of strong opinions and "advice" come from chch.
  19. wasp seems to have a bit of experience (he post pic's of his tank and show's that he is succesful in propagating corals which seems alot more then you do) he also didn't want to enhance his pic's (hey at least he has some that could be enhanced) because he didn't feel that it was right. exactly how i felt.
  20. just received the newest marine world (yes with lots of adds). on page 80 is an article on "The most common mistakes of a marine aquarist". (no not how to spell coral) mistake number 5 says: Mr big mouth, closeminded person opening your mouth and giving guidance on a subject or piece of aquatic equipment without ever having tried it or having experience of it. now this is a biggie in the aquatic world; strong opinion without experience bad very bad. how true.
  21. yes you do! its called the shore (where the water meets the sand ) and lots of gunk is visible on choppy days. its a good fertilizer for land plants.
  22. who do you call a "euro"?
  23. i know that i wear contact lenses. but where do you guys see a pic of his tank. i can't find any link or photo's. if they are posted i must be really blind.
