    Skimmer

i wear german made birkenstock shoes, because they are great for your feet. cost in auckland $229.00. i just ordered some from germany for a total of $125.94 and that includes shipping (which is actually free or incorporated into the shoe price. i also do not pay tax on them in germany very much like the US and don't have to pay tax here because of it's low value. only draw back is that it takes 4 to 6 weeks til they get here. but the funniest thing is that my mother can't even buy them in germany for that price and she would have to pay a little fortune to ship them to me as well (about $40). go figure!
  2. should have come to get some of mine. no nudi's just nasty anemone's. still have some for you once you got rid of those nudi's.
  3. he/she did thats whats left of my poor morish idol, just bones and slime. got expelled after the meal!
  4. would you like to buy it? at $1600 per kg :-? , i guess i'll part with it for let say 15 bucks. a real bargain
  5. fed my fish today and all was fine! went to jansens and on arriving home couldn't find him, looked around assumed the worst after ben told me one of his fish jumped out today. well found what was left of him. g*^%$*m bloody anemone. and they lived all together for about 6 months. barry even commented on how great he looked just yesterday. trying to post pictures! i am so gutted. anyone who wants to buy a well fed bali fire anemone? tentacles of the anemone in background!
  6. in a drysuit or 7mm wetsuit? i can see you in my mind on a towel in lyall bay on a summer's day going for a swim! oh my god i will have nightmares for years to come. it sucks outside. bloody weekend.
  7. yes finally, i found one of the three guys that watched holmes, two more to go.
  8. i purchased my berlin classic about 6 years ago on special for $295 from HFF. never regretted it. only needs a strong pump to run it. removed heaps of crap when i started zeovit but has since slowed down to 2 collection cups of yuk per week. could i skim more? i would say yes! do i really want to skim more? i don't know! as my water quality is near perfect, all my corals look healthy and grow well. have had my alvepora, goniopora and fox coral for well over a year now. so my skimmer seems to be just the right size for my tank and system (in this case zeovit) and i can not see me spending lots of money on a new one. its not broken and seems to work pretty good so why fix it? to have the biggest gruntiest skimmer to show off with? and then loose live stock and replace it constantly? nah i guess i will keep my little berlin a while longer. should really clean it, properly, but don't want to murder all the little tubeworms that live in it.
  9. volcanic rock contains lots of metals and other impurities which leak back into your tank when it comes into contact with saltwater.
  10. i used the filter cartridges that were supplied with my powerheads and used filter wool with great success. only needed for a couple of days and it removed lots of crap. just rinse often.
  11. unless you use phosphate and nitrate free laundry detergent and soaps you can't say that.
  12. not really interested in pest flatworms, more into the big coloured ones. used to have them overseas and they looked cool and didn't seem to cause any problems (at least the thin smooth and brightly coloured ones)
  13. were is it now? don't trow it away i will take it. hope not to late
  14. i can give you some. couldn't give it away at a previous reef club meeting as nobody wanted it
  15. agree lots of pro's very few con's - realy only one! LFS do i need to say more?
  16. you are so lucky to have such a great spot to collect! and even better to have such a good friend (slave?) to get your water. very nice pictures too i must say.

    SPS Food

very true. calcium reactors should really be called carbon reactors, because its the carbonate that is used by most stone corals as well as calcerous algae for skelleton building.

    SPS Food

as long as they have a carbon source most sps will grow even in less lit tanks but could well starve in heavy lit and underfed (no carbon source) systems. they will show great colour and some growth until the whole coloney collapses.
  19. thanks so much for the great rock warick, and please remember to come around for some corals, snails etc. hey brianamone the rock will most likely be cycled by the time you get around to pick your T5 unit up.
