  1. Yes , they bred for me once like that Rob . I had a mop in the tank for some killies , saw the fish behaving in a spawning manner and checked for eggs sure enough there were some . But as the water was from the tap i didn't do anything and did not have a spare tank to attempt the real thing. BE CAREFUL WITH THE FRY, i find this fish VERY scittish .When i feed my fish (before work) at 3am this species GOES NUTS all over the place , just a warning if you didn't already know. Stu Lord
  2. Yeah not good white spot and very small fry! I think you have done all you can do. could try and x your fingers though.
  3. peat can be found at a garden center , but why do you want to lower your ph discus are quit happy at 7 ph
  4. the eggs on glass sounds like cory's but the fry look like they have up turned mouths like live bearers ? the mollies are the only live bearers on your list so i'd say mollie fry.
  5. Buttterfly fish are a comercially bred species ,you can sex them by there anal fin female's is normal type of fin and males is a sickel shape.
  6. aogh , it is my under standing that they are live food only fish, a real surfus feeder. you mite want to try frozen blood worms but if they sink your butterfly fish may/will egnore them, try meal worms, mozzy rigglers and flys. flys and meal worms should be sold at your lfs.
  7. dont you mean pun-net, are they the gold form of the hony G's or the origanal strain , either way there a pretty little fish, well done and good luck. stu
  8. i didnt cover the tanks when i breed black widows and got well over 100 fry , so i'd say no.
  9. No it's not ball. you black out the breeding tanks of some tetras because the fry are sensitive to light before the free swim stage , it will kill them. i' ve never bred serpaes so do not know wether you need to cover the tank or not. but it would not hurt thats for sure.
  10. very good as you didnt use rain water
  11. did you use rain water or just aged water ?
  12. i do know there small but they have large mouths for there size, unlike wcw minnows and danios which apear to be the same size but have mouths to small for bbs
  13. most tetras can take them from the free swim stage, even a neon tetra can. when i breed the bw tetra it did as well, so does black phantom, black neon, glow light and many more.
  14. congrats is that your first tetra shae ? When there at the free swim stage feed micro worms and bbs in small amounts as often as you can.
  15. yes ball is bang on the money , some times mum and dad do no eat the white wons thou this could kill the rest of the spawn but dont worry your prisoners will breed again soon if this happens.

  18. That looks nasty catbrat this whiptail cat is one of tho's difficult fish to be sure of. they are also known as lancer whiptail :- either Hemiloricaria lanceolata or Hemiloricria cf. lanceolata . they are still in the shops here in wellington so if it does not look good for it hopefully you should beable to find one in auckland too.

is there farming around there ? if there is my be fertrliser run off , and what about 1080 drops ? then again after boiling it my be just fine. how much do you value your fish?.
  21. my lfs is only 20min away so unlease its a cold winters day i just put them in an open poly box .when i get home i float them for an hour as i slowly mix with tank water if there from out of town . most of my new fish go into species tanks so you could say that was a quarantine tank the others go in to a muilti tank tric-il filtration set up with a big uv filter in it . i also choose my fish carefuly checking the fish for signs of ilness before i buy.

    Live Food

No is the short answer caryl. tubifex worms look like well small garden worms, were as bood worms being a larva of an air breathing insect has a breathing snorkil at the end of its tail and a visable mouth, worms do not .i could go on but if you look at either closely you should be in no dout which one is which.( spelling sorry ).
