  4. yeah it is really cool how fast they develop. I'm seeing the same thing in my b/n but there bigger eggs easyer to see .
  5. lumpy dumpy do  Cool kribkrazy shame you did not have a bantam hen to put them under
  6. I've seen this before but not on the ancistus sp I'm breeding at presant . It could be diet ? there feed dayly on blood worms , cucumber or courgette and theres a lump of wood they rasp on as they like. note there is always food in the tank
  7. HI TEK , Good to see someone else keeping killies in wellington. I bet I know what shop you got tho's species from Is that the gold guentheri you have ?
  8. hi Blitz I don't have any experance of breeding fancy corys but I do know that the smallest tank you should use is 30x60x30cm = 50lt. I have found that when my bronze cats breed in a tank with tank mates the other fish eat the eggs when just layed and still soft, even guppys for info on breeding corys try planet catfish there is alot of articals on fancy corys and even if they don't have 1 on the skunks you may be able to use the info on breeding other corys. like doing a 50% water change and adding new water over 2 or so hours that will drop the over all tank temp by 5C.
  9. Silly me , I foregot about Roger. THANKS MA and Caryl
  10. I am looking for a expert on goldfish. Does anybody know of someone I can blast with quiestions in the Wellington area . thanks
  11. 3 weeks ago I moved 1 female into another tank that had a lot of brown algee, when it cleaned that tank I moved it to another. 2 or 3 day ago I placed it back with the others very fat belly and all . the tanks it had been in were all part of the same system as is the breeding tank. just got home from work, feed all my fish and noticed the largest male in the spawning hole they use last time . checked for eggs and sure enough they'd spawned again . I'm really pleased . as you may have realised ( from my other posts ) last time they breed I had just installed a new pump which improved the water quailty dramaticly, this may have induced the previse spawn. not this time, just normal 5% dayly water change verity of food and plenty of it. not sure how many eggs there are as it's hard to get a good look at them, the hole is deep in a piece of wood.

    Greetings

Welcome raven I think you will fell right at home here. Or though I don't know wether you are worthy of your proclaimation "fish nut", and if you are what does that make me with 30 tanks. Good luck with your pond extention, and breeding of fancy goldfish
  13. Billaney rainbow eggs are like killie eggs in that you can pick them from the mop and incubate them in a container ( small like the notho eggs you sure at my place ), saves having to make a new mop everday. I found that other fish ate the eggs in a community tank second after being layed .You may want to seperate the female for a couple of days then spawn them in a tank by them selves . they can produce lots of eggs so 1 or 2 days you may have enough for your needs.
  14. I did a diy project like this at the FNZAS 1999 agm. 1 table spoon per lt may be a bit light dee I use 1 Tp per 500ml others use more.

    Normal Krib?

I wouldn't say there normals colours at all !! thats 1 of the very best males I have ever seen in 20 years of keeping fish.
  16. STEVE, You have werd b/n
  17. hmm I was thinking one of the others . maybe next time get a bigger angel ?
  18. How big was the angel Matt , definately looks like it had been attacked.
  19. Hey MA they need bigger food then green water . some one in the wellington club used the muck from a canister filter, full of all sorts of little bugs. I use bbs, crushed flake and crumble there very hunger wee things.
  20. Got a copy yesterday Caryl no prob's with my one. I only put it down after almost having a car accident , I know your a dumb a.. if you drink "n" drive what about read "n" drive
  21. I agree with David R on the best filtation system for a tank that size with large fish. How ever if you do go down the canister filter road consider this - how will you keep the gravel clean? One way you may consider is a reverse under gravel, that is the return ( in full or part ) from your canister filter pushes water down the "up lifts" and through the gravel . the canister filter collects the muck and the gravel is the bio filter. This kind of filtation works well in tanks were plants are not an important feature.
  22. There is a plastics plant in either lower hutt or petone I don't know it's name but my brother bought some polycarbonate glue from them, check yellow pages . are you sure your tank is purspex not polycarbonate?
  23. I'd like to see a pic of your julii as I have not seen them in years, all the julii in shops have in fact been trillineatus. Some people use gravel, sand , rocks and plants but I don't and depending on the setup you realy don't need it.( for the pepered anyway) As for larger dorsal fins this is true for pepered and tri's but not for the real julii both male and female have rounded dorsal fins ( just checked with my last serviving male julii ).
  24. I think you should try the pepered first , what is the leopard ? there are at least 4 species that are called that. they are C. julii, C. sterbai,C. leopardus and C. trillineatus( spelling ). The leopards are likely to be the last one The pepered cats are one of the easyest cory's to breed , they prefer it cooler 21C. Best size tank for breeding is 600x300x300mm, 50lt think. how to breed, feed them till female is full of eggs ,frozen blood worms works very well , only do very small water changes untill female is full , say 2 weeks. then do a 50% water change droping the temp by 5C so from 21C to 15C OR what ever temp you keep them at. all you need in the tank is a small sponge filter and an air stone . after you drop the temp by 5C TURN THE AIR STONE ON WITH LOTS OF BUBBLES . If you can not sex them on site then you have young fish or all of one sex as with both pepereds and tri's the female is 1/3 to 50% bigger then the male . hope this helps
  25. thanks, In case your interested they look a little like L 149, Aqualog loricariidae all L - numbers. Theres no pic of L 149 in planet catfish.
